Some Run Brings Seagoville Together for A-T

Date:

The Oct. 3 benefit offers a timed 5K, walking and rolling options, and a pond-side shuffle, with an early arrival essential for participants.

A competitive runner chasing the finish line and a family taking a leisurely trip around the pond will share a purpose when the sixth annual Some Run returns to Bruce Central Park on Saturday, Oct. 3: supporting the search for a cure for a rare childhood disease.

The event benefits the A-T Children’s Project and offers several ways to participate at the park, 1801 N. Highway 175. Alongside the timed 5K, participants can choose an untimed 5K walk or roll, or a shorter shuffle around the pond.

That range of choices makes the morning accessible to people with different goals. Friends and relatives can attend together while selecting the activity that fits them, whether they want a competitive race or a relaxed outing.

All event proceeds benefit the A-T Children’s Project. A-T, short for ataxia-telangiectasia, is a rare, inherited disease that can progressively impair movement and coordination, weaken the immune system, and increase cancer risk.

The event’s Faces of A-T display will introduce participants to children honored by the fundraiser, connecting the morning’s activities to the families behind its mission.

For runners, organizers describe the 5K course as fast and flat. Cash prizes are planned for the top three male and female 5K finishers.

Current registration options are:

Participation option Price
Timed 5K run $45
Untimed 5K walk or roll $35
Shuffle around the pond $25
Virtual walk, roll, or shuffle, without a shirt or medal $20
“Stay in bed” support option, without a shirt or medal $20

Participants registering after Sept. 1 may not receive a shirt or medal. Infants and toddlers younger than 36 months may participate free while riding in a stroller with a registered adult; that allowance does not include a shirt or medal.

The most important planning detail is the arrival time. Organizers recommend reaching the park by 7:15 a.m. Street access closes at 7:30 a.m., ahead of the first race start. Free participant parking is available, with volunteers directing traffic.

Check-in will be at the park gazebo, and free gear check is available. Participants can reduce their race-morning errands by collecting packets at the gazebo Friday, Oct. 2, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule is:

Time Activity
6:15–7:30 a.m. Walk-up registration and packet pickup
7:30–7:40 a.m. Runners assemble at the starting line
7:40–8 a.m. Opening remarks
8:05 a.m. Timed 5K starts
8:10 a.m. Walk and Roll starts
8:15 a.m. Shuffle starts
9:15 a.m. Awards ceremony

The event is scheduled rain or shine.

Beyond the course, organizers advertise raffles, arm wrestling, complimentary Starbucks coffee and tea, and Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis.

The registered team roster also reflects the event’s community reach. Groups include Brockhouse Pit & Pantry, Golden Chick, Great Clips, and LeFever’s Plumbing, alongside family and tribute teams such as Angel Nick and Friends, Audrey Jane’s Light, and Larry’s Legacy.

Residents who would rather help operate the event can register as volunteers. Listed assignments include check-in, gear check, course guidance, the starting line, water stations, merchandise sales, the wrestling booth, and the silent auction. Volunteers will receive their station assignments on race day.

Some Run also gives families a starting point for a SeagoFest Saturday. The festival runs Oct. 1–4, with food, shopping, carnival attractions, and entertainment. Shop in Seagoville’s community guide lists Saturday’s car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants can register for Some Run through Race Roster. Race and volunteer questions may be directed to Pamela Digby at 972-286-7273 or somerun5k@gmail.com.
