Crandall ISD families may now apply for the Head Start program, which provides early-learning opportunities and family support for children preparing to enter kindergarten.
The full-day program offers a safe, nurturing classroom environment where children can strengthen academic, social and emotional skills through age-appropriate instruction and activities.
Enrollment is available for qualifying children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 and live within Crandall ISD.
Who May Qualify
In addition to the age and residency requirements, a child’s family must meet at least one Head Start eligibility condition.
Eligibility may include:
- Meeting the program’s household-income guidelines
- Receiving SNAP or TANF benefits
- Experiencing homelessness
- Having a child in foster care
- Having a child with an identified disability
A disability alone does not automatically guarantee enrollment. Families must complete the required application and eligibility-verification process.
Documents Families Should Bring
Parents or guardians should be prepared to provide several documents when completing enrollment, including the child’s official birth certificate, Social Security card and updated immunization records.
Families must also provide proof of residence, such as a current utility bill, lease agreement or mortgage statement, along with a parent or guardian photo identification.
Proof of income or program eligibility is also required. Accepted documentation may include a current SNAP or TANF benefits letter, federal income-tax forms, W-2 forms or records showing the previous 12 months of self-employment income.
Other documents involving Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, child support, a Federal Pell Grant or similar income sources may also be requested. Paycheck stubs are not listed as accepted proof of income.

Enrollment assistance is available at the Crandall Student Services Building, located at 308 E. Trunk St. in Crandall.

Spaces Are Limited
The Crandall Head Start program operates as a full-day program, and transportation may be available for some participating families.
Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. Eligibility is based on completed Head Start documents and Crandall ISD Skyward enrollment information.
A child will not be approved for enrollment until all required documents have been received and the family’s eligibility has been verified.
Families interested in the program are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible because available spaces may be limited.
