The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help identify a vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning on Interstate 20.
Traffic deputies responded at approximately 12:22 a.m. July 15 to a major crash on eastbound I-20 between Dowdy Ferry Road and St. Augustine Road.
The Sheriff’s Office said a preliminary investigation found that an 18-wheeler had developed mechanical problems and was stopped on the highway shoulder. A second truck driver arrived to deliver a replacement part and assist with the repair.
While the driver of the disabled truck was outside the vehicle, a van traveling on the shoulder struck him. The van continued eastbound without stopping.
Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a white or light-colored Chevrolet Express or GMC Savana van, with a possible model year between 2003 and 2026. The vehicle is expected to have damage along its right side and may be missing the front-right turn signal lamp.
Authorities believe the collision occurred between approximately 12:10 and 12:25 a.m.
Anyone who witnessed the crash, saw a van matching the description or has dash-camera or surveillance footage from the area during that period is asked to contact Detective Espino with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Unit at 214-589-2323.
The investigation remains ongoing.
