The 1960s brought new coaches, new stars and several dramatic changes to Seagoville football.
Jimmy Stark opened the decade as one of the Dragons’ most dependable scorers. In 1960, he scored three touchdowns in a 25-6 victory over Kaufman, rushed for two scores against Duncanville and added two more touchdowns in a heartbreaking 16-15 loss to Terrell.
The program continued producing powerful defensive performances. Seagoville shut out Wilmer-Hutchins 22-0 in 1961 and crushed Kaufman 48-0 in 1962. During a 13-0 victory over Spruce in 1963, Johnny Crumpley rushed for 104 yards while the Dragons held the Apaches to only 11 rushing yards in the second half.
Quarterbacks also began playing a larger role. David King threw three touchdown passes against Canton and four against Boswell in 1965. Billy Miller accounted for five touchdowns in a 41-17 victory over the Campbell junior varsity in 1968.
The decade concluded with another championship season. Under Coach Joe Scott, the 1969 Dragons won five of six district games and defeated Forney 14-13 to claim a share of the District 12-AA title. Joe Scott III ran for one touchdown and threw another to Charles Coleman in the championship-clinching victory.
The 1960s may not receive as much attention as some later eras, but the decade produced shutouts, record-setting performances and another district trophy.
