The Crandall Lady Pirates will enter the 2026 varsity volleyball season with valuable experience, several demanding early tests and a significantly reshaped District 15-5A schedule.
Crandall finished the 2025 season with a 9-17 overall record and a 7-8 district mark, placing fifth in the eight-team standings. The final record included seven league victories and several encouraging performances during the second half of district competition.
The Lady Pirates defeated Corsicana 3-2 on the road Oct. 21 before closing the regularly scheduled district slate with a 3-0 road victory over Ennis three days later.Those late-season results gave Crandall positive performances to build upon against two schools that remain on the 2026 district schedule.
Last season’s 15-player varsity roster included six seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. That left as many as nine players class-eligible to return with varsity experience, although the program’s public team page did not yet include a completed 2026 roster at the time of publication. The potential return of players who experienced five-set matches, district road trips and a difficult tournament schedule could provide useful continuity.
Early Schedule Offers Immediate Tests
Crandall is scheduled to begin the season Aug. 11 with home matches involving Caddo Mills and McGregor. The Crandall schedule currently lists both matches for 10:30 a.m., while the Caddo Mills schedule shows its match at Crandall at 10:30 a.m. followed by a noon match against McGregor. Because the published listings do not completely agree, spectators should confirm the final match order and start times before attending.
Caddo Mills should provide an immediate test after finishing the 2025 season with a 30-11 overall record and an 8-2 district mark. McGregor finished 11-22, but opening-day matches can still be useful opportunities for teams to establish rotations, communication and consistency under competitive conditions.
The Lady Pirates are then scheduled to play three consecutive road matches: Aug. 18 at Dallas Roosevelt, Aug. 21 at Coppell and Aug. 25 at Forney. Crandall will return home Sept. 3 to face Ursuline Academy before beginning district competition.
Coppell produced the strongest 2025 record among those three road opponents, finishing 20-11 overall and 10-4 in district play. Forney went 19-24 against a lengthy 43-match schedule, while Roosevelt finished 1-13. Previous records do not predict what those programs will accomplish with new rosters, but the variety should expose Crandall to different levels of experience and playing styles.
Ursuline Academy, Crandall’s final scheduled opponent before district play, finished 10-22-2 in 2025. By the end of that match, the Lady Pirates should have six contests available to evaluate combinations and prepare for the more consequential portion of the schedule.
District 15-5A Takes on a Different Look
Crandall will compete in a reshaped District 15-5A that includes Cedar Hill, Corsicana, DeSoto, Ennis, Lancaster, Midlothian and Midlothian Heritage. Crandall ISD’s UIL realignment announcement identifies Cedar Hill and DeSoto as programs moving from Class 6A into the district for the 2026-27 alignment. Their arrival replaces several familiar opponents and adds two programs with recent experience in Texas’ largest classification.
Midlothian enters the year as the district’s clearest returning benchmark after finishing 28-15 overall and going 14-0 in district competition last season. Crandall will receive an immediate measurement when it opens district play at Midlothian on Sept. 8.
DeSoto also brings a strong recent record after finishing 20-13 overall and 9-5 in its 2025 Class 6A district. Midlothian Heritage went 15-25 overall but earned 10 district victories, demonstrating that its overall record was shaped partly by a demanding schedule. Those three programs should make the upper portion of the standings highly competitive.
The remaining district teams also present opportunities and challenges. Cedar Hill finished 13-17 last season, Corsicana went 12-15, Ennis finished 12-21-2 and Lancaster posted an 11-21 record. Every program will have roster turnover, making early district results more informative than the previous season’s final numbers.
Following the opener at Midlothian, the published schedule sends Crandall to Ennis on Sept. 11 before home matches against DeSoto, Midlothian Heritage, Corsicana and Lancaster during September. The second half includes return meetings with Midlothian, Ennis, Midlothian Heritage, Cedar Hill, Corsicana and Lancaster, with the regular-season listing ending Oct. 23 at Lancaster. Only one DeSoto match currently appears on the posted schedule, so additional updates remain possible before district play begins.
The program’s current staff listing identifies Courtney Posey as head coach, with Taylore Gotcher and Sarah Winther serving as assistant coaches. Their task will be to blend any returning experience with new varsity contributors while preparing the Lady Pirates for a district that appears stronger and deeper than it was one year ago.
Crandall showed during the closing weeks of 2025 that it could win close matches and perform successfully on the road. The 2026 schedule will demand consistency from the opening week, but it also gives the Lady Pirates numerous opportunities to demonstrate growth, compete for a higher district finish and establish the direction of the program’s next chapter.
