Seagoville Dragons Football Trivia: The Perfect Regular Season of 1987

The 1987 Seagoville Dragons combined an explosive offense with a punishing defense to produce one of the greatest regular seasons in school history.

The Dragons opened with a 32-21 victory over Bonham. Chris Braggs returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, Mike Martin threw a 56-yard scoring pass to Elzie Barnett and John Livingston added a 37-yard touchdown run.

The defense quickly found its rhythm. Seagoville shut out Sunset 28-0, Lincoln 19-0 and North Dallas 62-0. Against Lincoln, the Dragons allowed only 66 total yards. Against North Dallas, Seagoville posted what the book identifies as the second-highest scoring total in program history.

Barnett was a constant big-play threat. He caught seven passes for 135 yards against Sunset and scored multiple ways against Bishop Lynch, including a touchdown on a blocked-punt return.

Livingston powered the running game. He rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown against Hillcrest, helping the Dragons overcome three turnovers and 120 penalty yards. The following season, he produced 216 yards of offense and four touchdowns in a 57-7 victory over Woodrow Wilson.

Across the 1987 and 1988 seasons, Livingston helped lead Seagoville to 17 victories in 21 games.

The perfect 1987 regular season remains a defining chapter in Dragons history—a season built on speed, defense, special teams and a roster filled with all-district talent.
