Seagoville High School is entering the 2026 27 season with fresh leadership on both basketball benches. The Dragons have brought in two coaches with deep ties to Dallas area hoops and international basketball development, signaling a new chapter for both the boys and girls programs.
🏀 Boys Basketball: Dez Willingham Takes Over
Dez Willingham has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Seagoville High School, stepping into the role for the 2026 27 season. Willingham brings a playing and coaching pedigree that runs deep through Dallas area basketball.
A Standout Playing Career
Willingham is a 2003 graduate of DeSoto High School, where he was named the Dallas Morning News Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to the 2003 UIL 5A State Championship. He earned Most Valuable Player honors in that title game and was voted the top 5A player in the state that year. A national top 50 recruit coming out of high school, he signed with Kansas State before playing two seasons at SMU as the Mustangs starting point guard, leading the team in assists, three point percentage, and free throw percentage during his tenure.
A Proven Coaching Track Record
Before arriving in Seagoville, Willingham built a strong reputation on the sidelines, most notably during his tenure as head coach at Skyline High School, where he took over the program after years of head coaching experience at First Baptist Academy. His teams consistently reached the playoffs, including a historic run to the TAPPS state semifinals, and he was recognized multiple times as a district coach of the year. Dragons fans should expect a coach who values discipline, development, and winning culture from day one.

🏀 Girls Basketball: John Nyembo Mbuyi Joins the Dragons
The Lady Dragons have a new leader as well. John Nyembo Mbuyi has been confirmed as the new girls basketball head coach at Seagoville High School, bringing with him a coaching resume that spans Dallas area programs as well as international basketball development work.
Experience Across DFW Programs
Nyembo Mbuyi previously served as head coach at Irving MacArthur High School, leading the Cardinals program, and also coached at Naaman Forest High School. That experience across multiple competitive Dallas Fort Worth programs gives him a well rounded foundation as he steps into the Seagoville girls program.
Founder of DR Congo Basketball
Beyond the high school sidelines, Nyembo Mbuyi is the founder of DR Congo Basketball, an organization focused on developing international talent and growing the game in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. That global perspective on player development is expected to be a major asset for the Lady Dragons as the new coach builds out his program in Seagoville.
