Friday night brings home football games for both Seagoville and Crandall. On Saturday, residents can choose between a pet vaccination clinic in Seagoville, food assistance in Crandall, a day at the wetlands in Combine, and a memorial race at RPM Speedway. The State Fair of Texas also opens Friday for families willing to make the trip to Dallas.
Two Home Games Friday Night
Crandall celebrates homecoming Friday, Sept. 25, when the Pirates host Bryan Adams at Pirate Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The stadium is at 400 W. Lewis St. For families and alumni, this is the weekend’s clearest hometown gathering: a district football game and homecoming night in one trip.
Seagoville also plays at home Friday. The Dragons face Thomas Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Fans following both local teams will have to choose a stadium, with the games starting just 30 minutes apart.
Pet Vaccinations Saturday Morning
Spay Neuter Network will offer low-cost vaccinations for dogs and cats Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Seagoville Animal Shelter, 500 Farmers Road. Flea and heartworm prevention will also be available at reduced prices.
The clinic does not take appointments. Organizers urge pet owners to arrive early because they will close the line once it reaches capacity. Prices for individual services are posted on Spay Neuter Network’s website.
Food Distribution in Crandall
Saturday is the fourth Saturday of the month, one of the regular distribution days for the Janis Evans Memorial Food Bank at First Baptist Crandall. The church lists the distribution from 10 a.m. to noon in its gym at 400 E. Mowry St.
Families planning to attend should check the church’s latest notice before traveling, particularly if they are arriving near the end of the distribution window.
A Saturday at the Wetlands
For a quieter outing, the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center in Combine is open Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 655 Martin Lane. Visitors can explore the boardwalk, trails, and exhibits; general admission does not require a reservation. The center says the last entry is at 3:15 p.m.
The center is closed Sunday, so Saturday is the opportunity to include it in this weekend’s plans.
Memorial Race at RPM Speedway
RPM Speedway in Crandall has scheduled its Smiley Sitton Memorial Classic for Saturday, Sept. 26. The track lists 305 Sprints, sport mods, and dwarf cars for the event. RPM Speedway is at 1267 County Road 4104.
Race fans should check the speedway’s event page for current gate times and race-day updates before heading out.
State Fair Opens Friday
The State Fair of Texas opens Friday, Sept. 25, at Fair Park in Dallas and runs through Oct. 18. Gates open at 10 a.m. on opening day. Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
That gives families a larger outing on any of the three days. Closer to home, Friday belongs to football, while Saturday offers the widest mix of practical services, outdoor time, and evening racing.
Volleyball Joins Friday’s Sports Schedule
Football is not the only local high school sport on Friday’s calendar. Crandall hosts Corsicana in volleyball, with the school district listing its JV and varsity matches beginning at 5 p.m. Seagoville’s varsity team travels to Molina for a scheduled 7:30 p.m. match.
