The final full week of August brings activities back to the Seagoville Public Library, while families in Crandall and Combine can begin marking their calendars for the return of Children’s Story Time in September.
Here is what is happening at the area’s two community libraries for Aug. 24–30, along with an early look at September.
Seagoville: Teen Night and Chess Club Return
Two of the Seagoville Public Library’s regular programs are back this week.
Teen Night — Monday, Aug. 24, 6–7:30 p.m.
Teen Night is open to ages 13–18 and is held on the second and fourth Monday of each month. The evening gives teens a place to meet, play games, work on crafts and art projects and spend time with others their age.
Seagoville Chess Club — Tuesday, Aug. 25, 6–7:30 p.m.
Chess Club follows Tuesday evening and is recommended for ages 8 and older. Players of different experience levels can take part, making it an opportunity for experienced players to find a game or newer players to begin learning.
Both programs are held at the Seagoville Public Library, 702 N. Highway 175.
September Programs Taking Shape
The library has also begun posting its fall programming.
Story Time returns Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. and is designed for children ages 3–5. The program will continue on Wednesdays.
Homeschool Hangout begins Thursday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. and will continue on Thursdays, giving local homeschool families another regular daytime activity.
The library has also announced that it will be closed Sept. 4–7 for the Labor Day weekend, so families should keep that holiday schedule in mind when planning early September visits.
Crandall-Combine: September Story Time Dates Announced
The Crandall-Combine Community Library does not currently have a special public activity posted for Aug. 24–30 that could be verified through its official online information.
Its fall children’s schedule, however, is already beginning to take shape.
The library has released its 2026–27 Children’s Story Time calendar, with two September programs:
Tuesday, Sept. 8 — 10–11 a.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 22 — 10–11 a.m.
Both programs will be held at the Crandall-Combine Community Library, 500 W. Lewis St. in Crandall.
A complete September activities calendar has not yet been posted online, so additional programs could be announced as the month approaches.
The library’s regular hours are 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday.
More Than Scheduled Programs
Even when the activity calendar is light, both libraries offer plenty beyond scheduled events.
Residents can browse books and other materials, use library computers and online resources, and explore digital reading options without waiting for a special program.
Seagoville patrons have access to digital books and audiobooks through services including OverDrive and Libby, while Crandall-Combine also provides online catalog and digital-resource access for its patrons.
With school back in session and fall programming beginning to return, the next few weeks should bring more choices for children, teens, adults and families at both local libraries.
