Turn One Customer Into Three Orders

Date:

The Side Hustle Playbook

Your next sale might already be sitting in your customer list. Before spending another evening promoting your business to strangers, give satisfied customers a clear reason to order again.

A baker can suggest a second occasion. A house cleaner can offer recurring visits. A craft seller can show how one personalized gift becomes a matching set. The opportunity begins with making the next purchase useful and easy.

Give Every Order a Next Step

Delivering the product should start the next conversation. Include a short message that connects the customer’s purchase to something they may need later.

A baker could write:

“Thank you for ordering your birthday cupcakes! I also offer smaller celebration boxes for office parties and family dinners. Send me your date and guest count whenever you need another batch.”

A cleaner might say:

“Your initial cleaning is complete, and I appreciate your business. If you would like help keeping everything manageable, I can send options for visits every two or four weeks.”

Each message explains a relevant service without pressuring the customer.

Make Referrals Simple

“Tell your friends” gives customers work to do. A ready-to-forward description makes recommending you easier.

Try this:

“Know someone who needs a dependable house cleaner? You can forward this message: I offer scheduled home cleaning in [service area]. Message [contact] with your home size and the help you need.”

Ask customers to share your contact information rather than providing someone else’s private details.

Suggest a Related Purchase

Choose one logical addition instead of presenting your entire catalog. A custom-shirt customer might appreciate matching tote bags, while a wreath buyer might want coordinating porch decorations.

Explain the extra product’s purpose and price before asking for a decision. Useful suggestions feel like service; unrelated suggestions feel like another sales pitch.

Your Playbook Assignment

Choose five satisfied customers. For each, identify one reasonable reorder opportunity, one related product, and one simple referral message. Send a personalized follow-up where the customer has welcomed further contact.
