Crandall Trivia: Pirates Won State Onstage

Date:

Crandall’s 2018 state championship story includes a stage, a cast, and a production of The Book of Everything. UIL’s official records identify Crandall as the Class 4A one-act play state champion that year.

Daniel Gambill directed the production. The state results list its cast, alternates, and crew, preserving the names of students whose work contributed to the championship.

Several performers also received individual recognition. Rachel Grant earned a Best Performer award for playing Ms. Van Amersfoort. Dalyn Kvapil, who played Thomas Klopper, made the All-Star Cast. Shayna Survil received honorable mention for her portrayal of Margot Klopper.

There is a useful distinction in the same results. Crandall won the one-act play championship, while the separate theatre team championship went to Freeport Brazosport. Crandall tied Salado for first runner-up in that broader team category.

Remembering the correct award makes the accomplishment clearer. The Pirates’ production itself earned the state title; the results do not need to be expanded into a different championship to be impressive.

For residents who associate UIL primarily with athletics, the record offers a reminder that state competition also recognizes dramatic performance and production work.

Crandall’s students reached the top of their classification through a collaborative piece of theatre. Their championship belongs alongside the school’s other major achievements, with its own cast, director, crew, and carefully documented honors.
