Crandall Trivia: Gas Pumps Gained Solar Panels

Date:

A Crandall gas station became a setting for an unusual energy pairing in 2024: selling motor fuel underneath a canopy equipped to generate solar electricity.

The Tri Gaz 5 station received a 49-kilowatt solar installation from DynamicSLR. Industry reporting in June 2024 described panels installed over the pumping area, using Enphase microinverters to convert electricity at the individual-panel level.

The system was projected to produce approximately 66,359 kilowatt-hours annually and offset about 17 percent of the station’s electricity requirements. Those were installation projections, rather than independently measured annual results.

The difference between the station’s two energy businesses makes the project interesting. Solar panels were not replacing the gasoline in customers’ tanks. They were intended to reduce the electricity the property needed to purchase for its own operations.

The project also demonstrated another use for an existing overhead structure. A canopy already shielding customers and pumps could support equipment producing power above them.

Enphase later identified the Crandall project in a 2025 announcement about solar installations at gas stations internationally, giving the local property a place in a wider industry discussion.

For drivers who passed beneath the canopy, the installation might have looked like another rooftop improvement. Its less obvious significance was that a conventional fuel stop had become a small electricity-generating site, combining two energy systems on the same commercial property.
