Is Crandall Finally Getting Another Hotel?

Date:

CRANDALL — A hotel agreement appeared on Crandall’s economic development agenda this summer, but the published meeting records do not establish that a new hotel is ready for construction, or when guests could begin checking in.

The Crandall Economic Development Corporation’s July 14, 2026, agenda included an item labeled “Performance Agreement Update – Hotel agreement.”

The posting confirms that a hotel agreement was scheduled for discussion, but it identifies no developer, hotel brand, room count, project address or incentive amount.

The official minutes provide little additional information. They repeat the hotel item without recording a substantive update, motion or vote beneath it.

Although the minutes document votes on other business, they do not record approval of a hotel agreement or a hotel construction schedule.

That leaves a significant distinction for residents following the project: a reference to an agreement is evidence of an item before the EDC, but it does not establish that construction is imminent.

Hotel development has appeared in Crandall’s public discussions before. An October 17, 2023, EDC agenda listed a hotel feasibility study under the director’s report.

That document establishes earlier interest in studying the market, although it does not identify a connection to the agreement referenced in July 2026.

An older city record also identifies land considered for hospitality use.

The January 21, 2020, City Council agenda proposed rezoning approximately 9.0033 acres generally at 303 S. Sixth Street, on the southeast corner of U.S. Highway 175 and FM 148.

The proposed planned-development change included allowing a hotel by right. That agenda item alone does not establish the rezoning’s final disposition or identify the property as the location of the July 2026 hotel agreement.

The records reviewed did not establish the proposed hotel’s developer, franchise affiliation or room count. They also did not provide a parcel identification that could reliably connect the July agreement to a specific property owner.

Public incentives remain another unanswered question. Neither the July agenda nor its linked packet supplies an executed hotel contract detailing a grant, tax rebate, infrastructure contribution or other financial commitment.

Consequently, no project-specific incentive amount could be verified from those documents.

Construction-deadline compliance could not be determined either. That assessment requires the signed agreement, any amendments or extensions, and evidence showing when the required milestones occurred.

Those materials were not located during this review.

One date in the July records should not be confused with a hotel deadline. The city manager’s report stated a goal of executing agreements by February 2027 for FM 741 intersection improvements involving TxDOT, Walmart and QuikTrip.

The report placed that date under the roadway project, separate from the hotel item.

Searches of publicly indexed Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation construction records did not identify a hotel registration that could be confidently linked to the July agreement.

That search result does not establish that the project has been canceled or that construction has not started.

For now, the verified finding is narrower than a hotel announcement: Crandall’s EDC placed a hotel performance-agreement update on its July agenda, but the documents reviewed leave the project’s identity, financial terms and construction obligations unresolved.
