Crandall Pirates Crush North Mesquite, 59–23

Date:

Darrik Ward rushes for 178 yards as Crandall wins its third consecutive game and remains undefeated in district play.

CRANDALL — The Crandall Pirates delivered another explosive offensive performance Friday night, October 9, overwhelming the North Mesquite Stallions 59–23 at Pirate Stadium and extending their winning streak to three games.

After opening the season with three consecutive losses, Crandall has completely reversed its fortunes, winning three straight district contests while scoring a combined 175 points.

The Pirates wasted little time taking command against North Mesquite, building a staggering 52–10 halftime advantage before cruising to their most significant district victory of the season so far.

The win improved Crandall’s overall record to 3–3 and its district record to a perfect 3–0, placing the Pirates atop the district standings entering another important matchup this week.

Darrik Ward Powers Pirates’ Offense

Junior running back Darrik Ward delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, rushing for 178 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries.

Ward averaged an impressive 13.7 yards per rushing attempt, repeatedly providing the Pirates with the kind of explosive production that makes their offense difficult to contain.

His 178 rushing yards also established a new season high.

Hezekiah Jordan provided another major offensive contribution, accounting for 103 total yards and four touchdowns.

Together, Ward and Jordan accounted for six touchdowns in an impressive offensive showing that left North Mesquite struggling to keep pace.

Pirates Take Control Before Halftime

Crandall’s offense established control early, piling up 52 points during the first two quarters.

By halftime, the Pirates held a commanding 42-point advantage, having already scored more points than North Mesquite could overcome.

The offensive outburst represented another impressive chapter in Crandall’s remarkable turnaround.

Crandall opened district competition with a 50–0 shutout of Dallas Sunset on September 17, followed by a dominant 66–6 homecoming victory over Bryan Adams on September 25.

Friday’s 59-point performance against North Mesquite continued that offensive momentum.

Through their first three district games, the Pirates have outscored opponents 175–29, averaging more than 58 points per contest while allowing fewer than 10.

That scoring margin illustrates the dramatic improvement Crandall has demonstrated since district competition began.

North Mesquite’s Winning Streak Ends

North Mesquite entered Friday’s contest riding a three-game winning streak, but the Stallions were unable to slow Crandall’s high-powered offense.

The loss dropped North Mesquite to 3–3 overall and 2–1 in district competition. It also marked the Stallions’ first district defeat, while Crandall remained unbeaten in league play.

North Mesquite managed 23 points, including 13 in the second half, but the Pirates’ enormous halftime advantage proved insurmountable.

Three Straight Wins Change Crandall’s Season

Crandall’s turnaround has transformed the outlook for a team that appeared to face a difficult road after its first three games.

The Pirates lost their season opener to Denton Braswell, 35–23, before falling to Rowlett, 26–15, and Terrell, 55–19.

Since then, Crandall has produced three consecutive convincing victories, scoring at least 50 points in each contest.

The Pirates have now scored 232 points through six games, an average of approximately 38.7 points per game.

More importantly, their undefeated district record puts them in a favorable position as the regular season moves toward its final weeks.

Next Challenge: Tyler Lions

Crandall faces another important district test Friday, October 16, when the Pirates travel to face the Tyler Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tyler enters the matchup with a 4–2 overall record, setting up an important contest between two teams competing for positioning in the district race.

For the Pirates, maintaining their offensive production while continuing to improve defensively will be important as the competition becomes more demanding.

Crandall’s next opportunity comes Friday night in Tyler, where the Pirates will attempt to extend their winning streak to four games.
