Seagoville Senior Center Sets Busy October Activities

Date:

Lunch, dominoes, “42,” and karaoke will give Seagoville-area seniors several reasons to visit the Seagoville Senior Center during the week of Oct. 5-8.

The center, located at 304 E. Farmers Road, serves residents age 60 and older with meals, recreation, social activities, and other services designed to help older adults stay active and connected.

Lunch is served Monday through Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. Participants must have an application on file, and Senior Center staff can help newcomers complete the paperwork. Meals are contribution-based, with $1 per meal requested.

Lunch Menu: Oct. 5-8

Monday, Oct. 5: Chicken enchilada soup with Spanish rice, Mexican-style tomatoes, tortilla chips, a fig bar, and milk.

Tuesday, Oct. 6: Italian beef macaroni with broccoli, Tuscany vegetable salad, Texas bread, a fresh apple, and milk.

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Polish sausage with chili beans, tangy spinach, a hot dog bun, pineapple tidbits, and milk.

Thursday, Oct. 8: Sloppy Joe with roasted diced potatoes, mixed vegetables, a hamburger bun, orange gelatin with mixed fruit, and milk.

Dominoes and “42” Fill Two Afternoons

The center’s dominoes and “42” schedule gives seniors an afternoon activity on both Monday and Wednesday.

Games are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., meaning sessions will be held Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 this week.

The Texas domino game “42” combines dominoes with trick-taking rules similar to card games and has a long history as a social pastime in communities across the state. At the Senior Center, the sessions also provide a regular place for participants to visit with friends and meet other local seniors.

The activity is not the only game program offered at the center. The City’s regular schedule also includes bingo on Monday and Wednesday mornings, along with crafts and game activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Karaoke Takes Tuesdays and Thursdays

The center has also expanded its afternoon social schedule with karaoke from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

This week’s karaoke sessions are Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Thursday, Oct. 8.

Seniors do not have to perform to participate. The activity also gives residents who prefer to listen to the music another opportunity to spend time at the center after lunch.

With dominoes and “42” on Mondays and Wednesdays and karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the center now has one of those afternoon activities scheduled on each of its regular weekday operating days.

Services Go Beyond Recreation

The Seagoville Senior Center’s services extend beyond meals and games. The City lists group exercise, arts and crafts, health and nutrition education, music, day trips, and transportation among the programs available to seniors.

Free transportation to and from the center is also listed as an available service.

The City’s stated goal for the center is to promote independence, preserve dignity, and improve quality of life for senior citizens in the Seagoville area.

Residents interested in the lunch program or activities can visit the center at 304 E. Farmers Road or call 972-287-4113.
