The first weekend of October is packed with local options, led by three more days of SeagoFest, Friday night high school sports, volleyball in both Seagoville and Crandall, restaurant entertainment, and a special Sunday birding program at the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center.
For families staying close to Seagoville, Crandall, and Combine, here is what is happening from Friday through Sunday.
SeagoFest Continues Friday Through Sunday
SeagoFest 2026 takes over C.O. Bruce Central Park throughout the weekend after Thursday’s cancel.
Friday includes carnival attractions, food vendors, arts and crafts, shopping, and live music. Some Run participants can also pick up race packets Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the park gazebo.
Saturday is the biggest day of the festival.
The sixth annual Some Run begins early Saturday morning, with walk-up registration and packet pickup from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. The timed 5K starts at 8:05 a.m., followed by the walk and roll at 8:10 and the shorter shuffle at 8:15.
Later Saturday morning, the SeagoFest Car Show runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vehicle registration is $25, with awards including Top 20, Best of Show Car, and Best of Show Truck.
Carnival rides, food, vendors, shopping, and live entertainment continue around those special events.
Sunday provides one final opportunity to visit SeagoFest before the four-day celebration comes to an end.
C.O. Bruce Central Park is at 1801 N. Highway 175 in Seagoville.
Dragons Travel to Samuell Friday
The Seagoville Dragons return to district football action Friday night with a road game against Samuell.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
Seagoville enters the game at 3-2 overall and 2-1 in district play after consecutive wins. The Dragons defeated Adamson 56-0 before beating Thomas Jefferson 48-7 last Friday.
That makes Friday’s game another important district contest as Seagoville moves deeper into the second half of its regular-season schedule.
Crandall Football Has the Week Off
Crandall football fans do not have a varsity game this weekend.
The Pirates are on an open date after routing Bryan Adams 66-6 during homecoming last Friday. Crandall has won two straight district games after beginning the season with three consecutive losses.
The Pirates are now 2-3 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Crandall returns Friday, Oct. 9, when North Mesquite visits Pirate Stadium for a 7 p.m. district game.
Lady Pirates Host Midlothian
Crandall volleyball gives local sports fans an early Friday option before the evening entertainment begins.
The Lady Pirates host Midlothian in a district match at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Crandall High School.
Crandall enters the match 12-11 overall and 4-3 in district play. The Lady Pirates are coming off a loss to Lancaster after defeating Corsicana and Cedar Hill in their previous two district matches.
With the district schedule moving into October, every match becomes increasingly important for teams working toward postseason position.
Lady Dragons Visit Wilson Friday
Seagoville’s varsity volleyball team is also scheduled to compete Friday.
The Lady Dragons travel to Wilson for a 7:30 p.m. district match, giving Seagoville fans a choice between volleyball and the Dragons’ football game at Samuell.
Seagoville has remained in the district race throughout the season and enters October with another stretch of conference matches ahead.
The Lady Dragons are also scheduled to visit Thomas Jefferson on Monday before returning to district competition later in the month.
Cotton Gin Offers Two Nights Out
Residents looking for entertainment without heading to a stadium or festival have two confirmed options at Cotton Gin Restaurant & Bar in Crandall.
Friday is Karaoke Night from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The restaurant follows that with live music Saturday from 7 to 10:30 p.m.
That gives Cotton Gin back-to-back nights of entertainment and makes it an easy option for dinner followed by music without leaving Crandall.
Cotton Gin Restaurant & Bar is at 1500 U.S. 175 Frontage Road, Suite B, in Crandall.
Mr. Oyster Bar Adds Seagoville Nightlife
Mr. Oyster Bar & Mexican Grill gives Seagoville another weekend dining and nightlife option.
The restaurant promotes live music as part of its entertainment atmosphere and stays open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Its current website, however, does not publish a specific performer or live-music starting time for this weekend.
Anyone going specifically for live entertainment should check with the restaurant before leaving home.
Mr. Oyster Bar & Mexican Grill is at 550 N. Highway 175, Suite 102, in Seagoville.
No RPM Speedway Race Saturday
Local racing fans should take note before making their usual Saturday trip toward RPM Speedway.
The speedway’s official revised 2026 schedule currently lists its next event for Saturday, Oct. 10, not Oct. 3.
That Oct. 10 program is scheduled to feature the ASCS 360 Sprints and Toddler Mods.
An outside dirt-track calendar still lists racing for Oct. 3, but RPM Speedway’s own website identifies Oct. 10 as the next event. The track’s official schedule should be treated as the controlling source.
RPM Speedway is at 1267 County Road 4104 in Crandall.
Special Sunday Morning at the Wetlands
The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center has an unusual Sunday event this weekend.
Although the center is normally closed Sundays, it has scheduled Bird the Restricted Central Cells from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
The guided birding trip takes participants into central portions of the wetland normally closed to general visitors. The program is designed for intermediate and advanced birders, although beginners are welcome.
Admission for the special program is $20, registration is required, and participation is limited to 15 people.
Residents who prefer a regular visit can also explore the center Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $5 for adults, with children 12 and younger admitted free.
The Wetland Center is at 655 Martin Lane in Combine.
Plan a Gathering at Lake Tenison
For residents thinking beyond this weekend, Lake Tenison offers another local option for birthdays, reunions, weddings, receptions, company events, church gatherings, cookouts, and other private celebrations.
The Seagoville property includes five private acres surrounding a three-acre lake, covered gathering areas, waterfront space, a private gate, and room for more than 100 guests.
Current fall and winter rates are $695 for a Friday rental from 6 p.m. to midnight, $795 for Saturday from noon to midnight, and $595 for Sunday from noon to midnight. Optional tables and chairs, a large tent, and portable restroom service are available for additional fees.
Adult beverages are permitted at approved private events, although Lake Tenison does not sell or provide alcohol.
Because reservations require approval and a 50% deposit, families interested in the venue should check the live availability calendar rather than assuming a particular weekend is open.
