Four Days Until SeagoFest: Some Run

Saturday’s Some Run gives participants a choice: run, walk, roll, shuffle, volunteer, or simply support the cau

SeagoFest opens Thursday, Oct. 1, but one of the weekend’s most meaningful events begins early Saturday morning.

The sixth annual Some Run returns to C.O. Bruce Central Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, combining a competitive 5K with walking, rolling, and shorter-distance options while raising money for the A-T Children’s Project.

The event is scheduled at the park, 1801 N. Highway 175, before Saturday’s SeagoFest activities move into full swing.

Organizers have intentionally built the morning around more than serious runners. Participants can enter the timed 5K, complete an untimed 5K by walking or rolling, take a leisurely shuffle around the pond, participate virtually, or support the fundraiser without leaving home through the event’s “Stay in Bed” option.

The race describes its 5K course as fast and flat, while the shuffle provides a much shorter way to participate.

A Full Morning Starts Before Sunrise

Race-day activity begins well before the starting gun.

Walk-up registration and packet pickup will run from 6:15 to 7:30 a.m. Runners line up from 7:30 to 7:40 a.m., followed by opening remarks through 8 a.m.

The timed 5K starts at 8:05 a.m. The untimed Walk and Roll follows at 8:10 a.m., and the Some Shuffle begins at 8:15 a.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.

Organizers recommend being at the park by about 7:15 a.m. Participants who are driving should pay particular attention to the arrival time: free participant parking is available, but organizers say participants must arrive by 7:30 a.m. before the street closes.

Volunteers will be directing traffic, and check-in will be at the park gazebo. A free gear-check service will also be available.

Registration Starts at $20

The current lists the timed 5K at $45, the untimed 5K Walk/Roll at $35, and the Shuffle at $25. A no-shirt, no-medal virtual option is listed for $20, as is the “Stay in Bed” fundraising option.

Race Roster notes that its displayed prices include mandatory charges, items, and fees where applicable.

The current SeagoFest guide also lists virtual package choices that can include a shirt or a shirt and medal. Participants registering this late should pay close attention to availability: organizers warn that people who registered after Sept. 1 may not receive a shirt or medal.

Children under 36 months can ride in a stroller at no charge when accompanied by a registered adult, although the child does not receive a shirt or medal. The event will be held rain or shine.

Serious Prizes for the Timed 5K

Although the Some Run is designed to include different levels of participation, the timed 5K has a competitive side.

Organizers advertise cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers. A 2026 event listing sourced from the Some Run’s Facebook event gives the prize structure as $500 for each first-place finisher, $250 for each second-place finisher, and $125 for each third-place finisher. That amounts to $1,750 across the six cash awards. First-place age-group awards and recognition for teams are also planned.

That means someone can arrive Saturday morning looking for a race, while someone else can come simply to walk around the pond with friends. Both are part of the same fundraiser.

The Reason Behind Some Run

All proceeds benefit the A-T Children’s Project, which supports research aimed at improving treatment and ultimately finding a cure for ataxia-telangiectasia.

A-T is a rare inherited genetic disease associated with progressive problems coordinating movement, immune-system complications, and an increased risk of cancer.

The A-T Children’s Project supports and coordinates biomedical research, clinical work, scientific collaboration, and other efforts focused on treatments and a cure.

Race participants will also be able to visit the Faces of A-T display, which puts children affected by the disease at the center of the event rather than allowing the morning to become simply another local 5K.

There Is More Than Running

Some Run organizers have added activities around the race itself. Saturday’s plans include raffles, arm wrestling, free Starbucks coffee and tea, and free Chick-fil-A Chicken Minis. Age-group and team recognition are also part of the event.

Volunteers are another important part of the morning. Current volunteer assignments include registration and check-in, gear check, course guides, the starting line, water stations, merchandise sales, support positions, the wrestling booth, and the silent auction.

That gives people another way to participate even if running or walking is not for them.

Friday Packet Pickup Can Save Time

Participants do not have to wait until Saturday morning to collect their materials.

Early packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the C.O. Bruce Central Park gazebo. Organizers strongly recommend early pickup so the Saturday schedule can stay on time. Packets are expected to include a goody bag, event shirt, race bib, and additional materials.

Anyone waiting until race morning can pick up a packet during the 6:15-to-7:30 a.m. registration period.

From the Finish Line to SeagoFest

Some Run is positioned to become the opening chapter of a long Saturday at C.O. Bruce Central Park.

After the 9:15 a.m. awards ceremony, the SeagoFest Car Show is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the festival weekend also includes carnival attractions, food vendors, shopping, and live entertainment. SeagoFest runs Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 1–4.

For families, that creates an unusually easy Saturday plan: arrive early for Some Run, stay for the car show, eat at the festival, browse the vendors, and make the carnival part of the rest of the day.
