The Crimes Increasing Fastest In Seagoville
Overall crime fell nearly 12 percent since 2019, but three violent offense categories tell a very different story.
The headline number looks encouraging. Seagoville recorded 327 Part I offenses in 2025, down from 370 in 2019. That is an overall decline of about 11.6 percent over six years.
But the citywide total does not tell the whole story. A Shop in Seagoville analysis of Seagoville Police Department data found that three major violent offense categories finished 2025 well above their 2019 levels.
Forcible rape, aggravated assault and robbery all rose during that span. The largest percentage increase occurred in the rape category, followed by aggravated assault and then robbery.

The numbers reveal an important distinction in Seagoville’s crime picture. Property crime has generally declined, while several violent categories remain higher than they were before the pandemic.
Forcible Rape Up 150 Percent
The largest percentage increase belongs to forcible rape. Seagoville recorded two offenses in 2019 and five in 2025, an increase of 150 percent.
That percentage requires context. Because the starting number was only two offenses, an increase of three cases produces a dramatic percentage change.
The annual figures show rape has not followed a steady upward path.

In other words, 2025 was well above the 2019 baseline. But it was well below the 11 cases recorded four years earlier.
That makes rape the largest percentage increase in this comparison. It is not necessarily the clearest example of a steadily worsening trend.
Aggravated Assault More Than Doubles
Aggravated assault presents a different concern. Seagoville recorded eight cases in 2019, and by 2025 that number had grown to 17, an increase of 112.5 percent.

The 34 aggravated assaults reported in 2023 stand out as a major spike. The number dropped sharply the next year before rising again in 2025.
Although 2025 remained far below the 2023 peak, aggravated assault still ended the year at more than twice its 2019 level. Among the major categories, this is one of the most meaningful long term changes, because it involves far more incidents than rape or robbery.
Robbery Up 40 Percent
Robbery ranked third. Seagoville recorded five robberies in 2019 and seven in 2025, an increase of 40 percent.

The year to year pattern has been uneven rather than a straight climb. Still, the two most recent complete years both finished above the 2019 level.
Combining the four principal violent categories produces perhaps the most striking finding in the data. In 2019, Seagoville recorded 15 combined offenses across homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
In 2025 that combined total reached 30, a 100 percent increase. Violent offenses made up about 4 percent of Part I crime in 2019. By 2025 that share had grown to just over 9 percent.
This does not mean Seagoville experienced twice as much crime overall. It did not. It means the composition of the city’s reported crime changed.
Property Crime Is Driving The Overall Decline
The reason the total crime figure can fall while several violent categories rise is straightforward. Property offenses make up most of Seagoville’s Part I crime, and several of those categories have declined.

Combined burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson fell from 355 offenses in 2019 to 297 in 2025. That is a decline of more than 16 percent, large enough to outweigh the increases in violent categories.
Percentages Can Mislead Without The Counts
Crime statistics in a city Seagoville’s size must be read carefully. When a category contains only a handful of incidents, one or two additional cases can create a very large percentage swing.
Moving from two cases to five produces a 150 percent increase. But it is still an increase of only three actual offenses, so raw totals matter as much as percentages.
Homicide and arson were left out of the percentage ranking. Both rose from zero incidents in 2019 to one in 2025, and a standard percentage increase cannot be calculated from a starting value of zero.
Population growth is another factor. Seagoville has added thousands of residents since 2020, so raw offense counts and per capita crime rates are not interchangeable.
The Bigger Picture
The data do not support a simple claim that crime is rising in Seagoville. Overall Part I offenses are lower than they were in 2019, and vehicle theft, burglary and theft have all held steady or declined.
But the opposite is true in three violent categories. Forcible rape sat 150 percent above its 2019 level in 2025, aggravated assault was up 112.5 percent, and robbery was up 40 percent.
Most notably, the combined total for homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault doubled, from 15 incidents in 2019 to 30 in 2025. For residents trying to gauge whether Seagoville is becoming safer or more dangerous, that distinction matters.
