A Longview all-state lineman turned Southland Conference standout at Stephen F. Austin, Booker brings nearly two decades of coaching experience into his third season leading the Dragons.

Seagoville football fans have watched Gordon Booker II lead the Dragons through two seasons that ended the same way, a playoff berth followed by a first round exit.
But the man on the sideline built his reputation long before he arrived in Seagoville in May two years ago. His path from an East Texas high school standout to a college letterwinner to a nineteen year coaching veteran gives the community a fuller picture of who is guiding the program into 2026.
A Standout at Longview High School
Booker’s football story starts well before his coaching career. A 2007 graduate of Longview High School, he earned all state honors as an offensive lineman, was named to the all district team twice, and picked up an all East Texas selection during his time with the Lobos, according to Dallas ISD.
Four Years at Stephen F. Austin
That high school production carried Booker to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, where he became a four year letterwinner.
Booker was an All-Southland Conference honoree from 2008 through 2011, a run that placed him among the top linemen in one of the top FCS conferences in the country during those seasons. He graduated from SFA in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology.
An Education To Match The Resume
Booker did not stop at his undergraduate degree. In 2019, he added a master of education degree in sports administration from Concordia University of Texas, rounding out a background that blends playing experience, coaching knowledge, and formal training in athletic leadership.
Nearly Two Decades On The Sideline
Booker’s coaching path started small and grew steadily. He served as the defensive line coach at Tyler Junior College in 2012, then moved into Texas high school football with stops at Henderson High School in 2013 and Longview High School, his alma mater, from 2014 through 2016.
He went on to coach at Mesquite High School in 2017, Lancaster High School from 2018 through 2019, and David W. Carter High School from 2020 through 2021. By the time he arrived at Seagoville, Dallas ISD credited him with nineteen years in the coaching profession.
The North Forney Turnaround
Booker’s final stop before Seagoville came at North Forney High School, where he served as defensive coordinator during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Under his direction, the Broncos defense helped turn a team that had won 3 games and lost 7 into one that won 9 games and lost only 3, a turnaround that included a bi-district playoff victory.
Booker’s defense finished first in its district and ranking among the top twenty defenses in the Dallas Fort Worth area. The Broncos pass defense also ranked second in the entire region.
The former collegiate standout also served as the head powerlifting coach and the Dean of Students at North Forney, experience that speaks to his investment in student athletes beyond the football field.

Taking Over At Seagoville
Seagoville gave Booker his first opportunity to run an entire football program. He joined the Dragons in May of 2024, taking on the dual role of athletic coordinator and head football coach after nearly a decade and a half as an assistant.
Two Seasons, Two Playoff Trips
Booker’s first Seagoville team finished with a 3-8 overall record, and a 3-4 card in district play. It was a difficult start that still ended with a playoff berth after the Dragons closed the regular season with wins over Spruce, Jefferson, and Adamson.
Midlothian Heritage ended that season with a 65-0 blowout in the bi-district round.
The 2025 season brought a step forward. Seagoville improved to 5-6 overall, and 4-3 in district play, to advance to the postseason.
The offense grew from 159 points in year one to 279 points in year two, and the Dragons scored 39 points or more in five different regular season games.
Seagoville fell to Terrell 72-14 in the opening round of the playoffs on November 13, 2025.
Looking Ahead To Year Three
Booker now enters his third season at Seagoville with a roster that includes several returning all district players, including Kollin Williams, Jayln Beauchamp, and Josiah Royal.
The district has also grown more competitive, with Mesquite Poteet joining a field that already includes South Oak Cliff, Samuell, Wilson, and Hillcrest.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football projects Seagoville to finish fifth in that field, just outside the playoff picture, which sets up a season where Booker’s growing resume as a head coach will be tested against a tougher schedule.
