The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center will host its 2026 Wings Over the Wetland fundraising event from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, bringing supporters together for an evening focused on North Texas wildlife, water resources and environmental education.
This year’s theme, “Bourbon, Boots & Birds,” will combine dinner, live entertainment, signature cocktails, wildlife encounters, fundraising activities and views of one of the region’s most distinctive natural landscapes. Proceeds will support the Wetland Center’s educational programs, conservation work and research opportunities.
The event is designed to highlight the connection between healthy wetlands, clean water, wildlife habitat and the communities that depend on those resources. Guests may participate by purchasing tickets, becoming sponsors or making donations.
Supporting Education and Conservation
The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center operates within a nearly 2,000-acre constructed wetland that plays an important role in North Texas water management. The wetland naturally helps polish as much as 90 million gallons of water each day while also providing habitat for birds and other native wildlife.
The Wetland Center helps visitors understand the science behind those systems through field experiences, public programs, hands-on lessons and research opportunities. Its mission includes educating the public and supporting research related to water quality, water reuse, wetland systems and wildlife conservation.
As North Texas continues to add residents and development, organizers say environmental education is increasingly important. Wetlands can improve water quality, provide wildlife habitat and support healthier ecosystems, but many residents may never encounter those systems without accessible educational programs.
Wings Over the Wetland raises money to help students, teachers, families and community members experience the wetland firsthand and better understand its regional importance.
Programs for Students, Families and Visitors
Support generated through the event helps the Wetland Center provide hands-on environmental education to thousands of kindergarten-through-12th-grade students each year.
Students may explore scientific concepts outside the traditional classroom while learning about water, wildlife, habitats and conservation. Educators and volunteer stewards guide visitors through activities intended to encourage observation, curiosity and responsible environmental decision-making.
Public programs also give families opportunities to explore the wetland, observe native wildlife and learn how water-management systems affect everyday life in North Texas.
The property is recognized as a notable birding destination. Nearly 300 bird species have been observed in the area, and the wetland provides opportunities to view nesting bald eagles and other native animals.
Event organizers hope those experiences will inspire future scientists, teachers, conservation professionals, birders and outdoor enthusiasts. Donations of any size will help the center continue creating opportunities for visitors to connect with nature and develop long-term interest in environmental stewardship.
An Evening With a Purpose
Guests attending Bourbon, Boots & Birds can expect an evening that balances entertainment with the Wetland Center’s conservation mission.
Planned features include signature cocktails, dinner, live entertainment, wildlife encounters, a silent auction and additional fundraising experiences. Attendees will also have an opportunity to enjoy the wetland landscape as the evening progresses.

The Wetland Center is also preparing to announce the event’s 2026 honorary chair. Organizers said the selected individual’s leadership and commitment to conservation and community will help support the annual fundraiser.

Complimentary Transportation From Dallas
Complimentary charter bus transportation will be available between Dallas and the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center.
Passengers will depart from Rosewood Court, 2101 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas. Guests using the shuttle should arrive by 3 p.m., and the bus will leave promptly at 3:15 p.m.
Return transportation will depart the Wetland Center at approximately 9 p.m. following the conclusion of the event. A second bus or departure time may be added depending on the number of guests requesting transportation.
People purchasing tickets or sponsorships can indicate their interest by selecting the complimentary shuttle option during registration.

Wings Over the Wetland is intended to create an impact that continues beyond the Nov. 7 gathering.
