Seagoville Flashback is a recurring feature revisiting notable moments from Seagoville’s past, drawn from official city and police records.
This week’s Seagoville Flashback looks back to July 2019, when quick recognition of a suspect on surveillance video led Seagoville Police to an arrest just hours after a string of business burglaries.
According to a news release from the City of Seagoville, dated July 9, 2019, a Seagoville Police Officer discovered a shattered glass door at a convenience store in the 600 block of Hall Road during the early morning hours of July 5, 2019. Further investigation determined that a total of three businesses in the small strip shopping center showed signs of forced entry and had been burglarized.
Officers met with a representative of the convenience store who was summoned to the scene. According to the release, an officer was able to view the store’s surveillance video and quickly recognized the lone suspect as a known local offender.
Assisting officers searched for and located the suspect loitering around a business in the 200 block of N US Highway 175. He was carrying a backpack at the time of the encounter. Police said officers detained the suspect and found the backpack contained numerous items, including rolls of lottery tickets, packages of cigarettes, bottled drinks, rolled coins, and currency. All of these items were determined to have been stolen from the businesses during the burglaries.
Officers arrested and charged Nicholas Troy Krause, 21, of Seagoville, with three counts of Burglary of Building. According to the release, he was being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $30,000 bond for the collective charges, and was also being held without bond on two probation violations stemming from previous theft convictions.
Looking back, this case stands out as an example of how quickly a coordinated response, combined with sharp recognition from an officer familiar with local offenders, can lead to a swift resolution in a multi business burglary investigation.
