This week’s Seagoville Flashback looks back to the early morning hours of August 25, 2018, when quick thinking from a patrolling police officer and a group of neighbors prevented what could have been a tragedy on Casa Grande Drive.
According to a news release from the City of Seagoville, Seagoville Police Officer Sam Click was patrolling his assigned beat around 1:41 AM when he discovered the front of a duplex home engulfed in fire in the 700 block of Casa Grande Drive. Officer Click immediately called for the Seagoville Fire Department and requested backup from additional officers.
As frantic residents gathered outside, Officer Click learned that others were still inside the burning home, asleep. Without hesitation, he forcibly entered through a rear exterior door of the duplex to reach them.
Officer Click woke a sleeping adult resident inside. From there, he and several neighbors who had rushed to help worked together to retrieve five sleeping children from inside the duplex, leading each of them to safety. The children ranged in age from just six months old to 10 years old.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Officer Click and the neighbors who jumped into action that night, every resident was safely removed from the duplex with no significant injuries reported. The Seagoville Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.
The original release credited Captain Steve Davis as the city’s point of contact for the story at the time.
Eight years later, this Flashback is a reminder of the kind of split second courage that quietly shapes the history of small towns like Seagoville, courage shown not just by a sworn officer doing his job, but by ordinary neighbors who refused to stand by.
