Seagoville Flashback
A look back at a case that shook our community. This Seagoville Flashback revisits a story originally reported on September 15, 2016.
Ten years ago this week, the Seagoville community was confronted with a tragedy that began at home but ended more than 20 miles away in Garland, Texas. A 62 year old Seagoville woman, Nancy Nolan, was stabbed to death, and a Garland man who lived in the same home was charged with murder in her killing.
According to FOX 4 Dallas Fort Worth (KDFW), Garland police responded to a home in the 900 block of Meadowdale Circle on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a report of a deceased female inside the residence.
Garland Police Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Pedro Barineau said Nolan, originally of Seagoville, had been living at the Garland home at the time of her death. Barineau told reporters that responding officers were met outside the home by a man who stated he had killed the woman inside. That man was identified as 60 year old Ryan Howell, who also lived at the residence.
Investigators believe Nolan was stabbed to death two days earlier, on Sunday, September 11, 2016. Howell was charged with murder in connection with her death. At the time of the original report, police said they were continuing to investigate whether a second male resident of the home may have been involved.
FOX 4 also reported that the second man living in the home was Nolan’s boyfriend, Jerry McGee. According to McGee, Howell struck him with a baseball bat when he arrived home, and McGee says he was beaten and held in the home for two days before he managed to escape and run to a neighbor for help. McGee, who is an amputee and relies on crutches, said Howell had taken his crutches away during that time. Police questioned McGee for hours but released him on Wednesday without filing charges against him.
As of this Flashback, Big D area outlets that covered the case in 2016 did not report a trial outcome, and Shop in Seagoville has not been able to independently verify any subsequent court resolution. We are treating the case status as unresolved pending verified updates from Dallas County court records.
Nolan’s death remains a painful chapter for those in Seagoville who knew her. Seagoville Flashback exists to remember stories like hers and to keep our community informed about the cases that touched our town, even years later.
