Seagoville Flashback
A look back at a story that shaped Seagoville’s history.
On the night of September 25, 2012, a vacant house on Crosscreek Lane in Seagoville became the scene of a triple shooting that left two men dead and a third wounded. The case remained one of the more unsettling chapters in the city’s recent history, and it eventually led investigators to a Capital Murder arrest tied to an alleged robbery plot gone wrong.
What Happened That Night
According to NBC 5 Dallas Fort Worth, police and emergency crews were called after reports that three men had been shot in Seagoville. Investigators said the shooting happened inside a vacant home on Crosscreek Lane.
Capt. Ray Calverley of the Seagoville Police Department told NBC 5 that a neighbor on an adjacent street saw a man in a white shirt running down an alley with blood on him. That neighbor said she also heard gunshots and called 911.
Officers arriving on scene made a traffic stop and found one man who had been shot. He was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. A short time later, police made a second traffic stop and located another man who had also been shot. He was transported to an area hospital. Inside the vacant house, officers found a third man dead, along with two handguns. Police said the shooting appeared to have taken place inside the home.
A Second Victim Dies
NBC 5 reported that Christine Dykes with the Seagoville Police Department confirmed a second shooting victim died at the hospital the night after the shooting, bringing the death toll to two. At that point, police said no arrests had been made and no identities had been released.
The Seagoville Police Department brought in the Dallas County Criminal Investigations Division and Texas Rangers to assist with the case.
The Surviving Victim and an Arrest
Local outlet Suburbia News later reported that the third victim, 35 year old Donald Flowers of Dallas, remained hospitalized in the days following the shooting. Investigators went on to obtain a Capital Murder arrest warrant for 19 year old Jorge Jair Zacarias of Houston.
According to Suburbia News, Zacarias was arrested without incident by Texas Rangers from Company A in Houston and was transferred to the Dallas County Jail, where his bond was set at $500,000. Investigators determined that Zacarias and others were believed to be participants in a plot to rob another group of people during a drug transaction. At the time of that report, Seagoville Police and the Texas Rangers said the investigation remained active and that additional arrests were expected.
Looking Back
More than a decade later, the Crosscreek Lane shooting remains a sobering reminder of how quickly a quiet Seagoville street can become the center of a major criminal investigation. The case also illustrates how local reporting, neighbor tips, and cooperation between Seagoville Police and the Texas Rangers worked together to move a violent and confusing scene toward identifiable answers.
