Seagoville High School Earns First B Under TEA A–F Accountability System

Seagoville High School has earned an overall Texas Education Agency accountability rating of 87, giving the campus its first “B” grade since TEA began issuing preliminary campus ratings under the A–F accountability framework in 2018.

The preliminary 2026 results show significant improvement across each of the major accountability measures, led by a 22-point increase in Closing the Gaps and a 15-point gain in Student Growth.

Seagoville’s overall rating climbed 12 points, from 75 to 87.

The campus reported the following year-to-year gains:

  • Overall Rating: 75 to 87, an increase of 12 points
  • Student Achievement: 72 to 79, an increase of 7 points
  • Student Growth: 59 to 74, an increase of 15 points
  • Relative Performance: 79 to 87, an increase of 8 points
  • Closing the Gaps: 65 to 87, an increase of 22 points

The results represent broad improvement across the campus, with progress measured not only by student performance but also by academic growth and the school’s ability to close achievement gaps among student groups.

School officials credited students, teachers, staff, campus leadership, families and the broader Seagoville community for contributing to the improvement.

“This achievement represents more than a letter grade,” the school said in announcing the results. “It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers and staff, the leadership throughout our campus, and the unwavering support of our families and community.”

Texas Accountability Ratings Have Evolved Over Three Decades

Texas began its first formal statewide school accountability system in 1994. Schools and districts were initially evaluated using descriptive classifications that included Exemplary, Recognized, Academically Acceptable and Academically Unacceptable.

The Texas Legislature approved a transition to an A–F letter-grade system in 2017, and TEA introduced the new framework the following year.

Under the letter-grade system, campuses receive overall ratings based on multiple measures designed to evaluate academic achievement, student progress and performance among different student populations.

For Seagoville High School, the 2026 preliminary rating represents the campus’s strongest showing since the A–F framework was introduced eight years ago.

The largest improvement came in Closing the Gaps, where Seagoville jumped from 65 to 87. Student Growth also showed substantial progress, rising from 59 to 74.

Relative Performance increased from 79 to 87, while Student Achievement improved from 72 to 79.

Seagoville Sets Its Sights on Continued Growth

Campus leaders said the B rating is a milestone, but the school’s focus remains on continued academic improvement.

Seagoville High School plans to continue raising expectations, accelerating student growth and expanding opportunities for students as it builds on the gains reflected in the preliminary 2026 results.

The message from the campus is that the 87 rating is not viewed as a finish line, but as evidence that sustained effort by students, educators, families and the community can produce measurable results — with the next goal already ahead.
