The Seagoville Public Library at 702 N Highway 175 continues to serve as a quiet but active hub for the community, offering everything from preschool story time to teen chess nights. For residents who have not stepped inside recently, the library offers a wider range of services than many expect from a small town branch.
Mission and Collection
According to the library’s mission statement, its goal is to improve quality of life for Seagoville residents by serving as a center for reliable information and a broad range of educational and recreational resources. The library owns approximately 30,000 print, audio visual and digital materials, including large print books, magazines, DVD movies, Wi Fi hotspots and e books.
Library Director Vivian Rawlings noted in her message to the community that the library continues to expand its programming even though its physical space is limited.
Hours and Location
Per the library’s website, current service hours are Monday from 9 AM to 8 PM, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM. The library is closed Saturday and Sunday. Residents can reach the library at 972-287-7720 to confirm hours or ask questions about materials.
Youth and Teen Programming
The library runs several recurring programs for younger residents throughout the school year, including Story Time for preschoolers and Homeschool Hangout for school age children. Each summer, the library also hosts a Summer Reading Club tied to the Texas State Library’s annual theme, kicking off shortly after public school lets out.
Teens have their own set of regular activities. Teen Night is held the second and fourth Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 PM for ages 13 to 17. A Chess Club meets after hours on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, also from 6 to 7:30 PM, and a Fiber Arts Club gathers the first Monday of each month during the same evening window.
Digital Access and TexShare
The library is a member of the Northeast Texas Digital Consortium, giving cardholders access to thousands of digital e books, audiobooks and streaming video titles. Seagoville also participates in the statewide TexShare program, which allows local residents to borrow from other Texas libraries and allows TexShare cardholders from elsewhere to use Seagoville’s collection under standard borrowing rules.
Getting a Library Card
Any Seagoville resident can apply for a card with proof of identification, such as a Texas driver’s license, state ID, military ID or Mexican consular ID. Parents must sign for children under 16. Once issued, cardholders can check out up to eight items at a time, with circulating materials eligible for two renewals as long as no other patron has a hold on them. Residents living outside city limits can still use the library with a TexShare card from their home library or by purchasing a $20 annual membership.
The library also shares its collection with the Seagoville Senior Citizens Center and donates materials to the Seagoville Federal Correctional Institution as part of its outreach efforts.
