This week’s Seagoville Flashback looks back ten years to February 2016, when the City of Seagoville received statewide recognition for public safety.
According to a City of Seagoville news release dated February 26, 2016, Seagoville was ranked one of Texas’s “Top 50 Safest Cities” by BackgroundChecks.org, a site the release described as devoted to public safety and open government. The rankings were based on FBI violent crime statistics along with proprietary research data compiled by BackgroundChecks.org.
Seagoville placed number 23 in a statewide field of more than 3000 potential cities. The city’s news release credited the ranking to the commitment of the Seagoville community as a team, specifically naming the police and fire departments, citizens, city staff, schools, and the business community as contributors to the city’s safety and well being.
The release also noted that for 2015, the City of Seagoville experienced a year end overall reduction in FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Part 1 Offenses of 6.63 percent. That figure represented an overall average of the Part 1 crime statistics tracked under UCR, which the release explained encompass major crimes such as robbery, homicide, rape, and burglary, along with all variations of theft.
Mayor Dennis K. Childress issued a Proclamation at the March 7, 2016 City Council meeting in recognition of the achievement.
