SEAGOVILLE — How many people gather under one roof in Seagoville? The Census Bureau’s answer is 3.29 per household, an average that places the city close to several neighbors while concealing a wide variety of living arrangements.
The bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates show 5,278 Seagoville households. Some consist of one person; others include married couples, children, extended relatives or unrelated residents sharing a home.
Comparing the same five-year period, Seagoville’s average matches Balch Springs and sits slightly above Crandall and Forney. Combine’s estimate is approximately 3.4 people per household.
| Community | Average people per household, 2020–2024 |
|---|---|
| Combine | About 3.4 |
| Seagoville | 3.29 |
| Balch Springs | 3.29 |
| Crandall | 3.23 |
| Forney | 3.20 |
Those small differences require caution. The American Community Survey is a sample survey, and its estimates carry margins of error.
These figures describe local household patterns; they do not establish a statistically significant ranking among the towns.
Seagoville’s household composition provides a more detailed picture than its average alone.
ACS household figures show an estimated 4,041 family households, representing 76.6% of the city’s total.
Married-couple families accounted for 2,614 households, or approximately 49.5% of all households. Another 1,427 were classified as other family households.
The Census Bureau defines a family household as one containing at least one person related to the householder by birth, marriage or adoption.
That includes more arrangements than parents raising young children: adult relatives living together can also qualify.
Crandall’s figures show a similar overall family-household share but a different mix within it. An estimated 1,150 of its 1,475 households, 78%, were family households.
Married-couple families accounted for 997 households, approximately 67.6% of all households, compared with Seagoville’s 49.5%.
Combine’s estimated family-household share was 85.3%. These are descriptive comparisons, subject to sampling uncertainty.
Living alone also remains part of Seagoville’s household picture. An estimated 887 households, or 16.8%, consisted of one person.
Crandall had an estimated 267 one-person households, representing 18.1% of its total.
“Nonfamily household” does not necessarily mean someone lives alone.
The category also includes people sharing a home without a relationship to the householder through birth, marriage or adoption, such as unrelated roommates.
The figures also distinguish household size from family size. Seagoville’s estimated average family size was 3.75 people, compared with 3.72 in Crandall.
Household averages are lower because they include people living alone and other nonfamily arrangements.
For residents considering what these numbers mean, there are limits to the conclusions.
A larger household does not, by itself, establish overcrowding, financial hardship or multiple generations living together. T
hose questions require additional information about bedrooms, relationships and housing costs.
The estimates also cover 2020 through 2024; they are not a head count of who lives in each community today.
Behind Seagoville’s 3.29-person average are households with different needs: space for children, room for relatives, a home shared with roommates or a manageable place for one person.
