SEAGOVILLE — Preschool stories, homeschool gatherings, chess and creative projects give Seagoville families opportunities to learn together at the public library.
This month’s lineup also includes spooky storytelling with Elizabeth Ellis and an evening gathering for teenagers.
The programs serve different ages and interests, making it useful for parents to check each activity’s requirements before choosing a visit.
Wednesday stories for preschoolers
Story Time meets Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at Seagoville Public Library for children ages 3–5.
The program introduces young children to stories and reading in a group setting. For parents and caregivers, it offers a regular weekday outing built around books and imagination.
The fall series began Sept. 9. The published weekly schedule places the next Wednesday sessions on Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, subject to any library schedule changes.
Families with children outside the advertised age range should contact the library before attending to ask which activities would be appropriate.
Thursday connections for homeschool families
Homeschool Hangout meets every Thursday at 11 a.m., giving homeschooling families a recurring opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and spend time together.
The library’s announcement encourages participants to make friends, share stories, read a book or simply enjoy the company of other homeschoolers. It presents the gathering as a flexible social opportunity rather than a formal class with a published curriculum.
Unlike Story Time, the supplied Homeschool Hangout announcement does not specify a numerical age range. Families should ask staff about suitability for their children, sibling participation and any supervision requirements.
The next Thursdays on the calendar are Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, subject to schedule changes.
Spooky stories arrive Oct. 19
Storyteller Elizabeth Ellis is scheduled to present Spooky Stories at the library on Monday, Oct. 19.
The event has two sessions divided by age:
- Ages 3–12: 6–6:45 p.m.
- Ages 13–17: 7–8 p.m.
Parents should choose the session matching their child’s age. Families with children in both groups can contact the library about attendance arrangements.
The separate sessions give younger children and teenagers their own designated storytelling time.
Teen Night offers an evening option
Teenagers ages 13–17 can attend Teen Night on Monday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The announcement describes an informal gathering with games and opportunities to meet other teenagers. Participants may bring a friend or attend on their own.
For students whose daytime schedules prevent them from joining morning programs, Teen Night provides an evening activity close to home.
Creative projects across generations
Fiber Arts for Everybody meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m.
The gathering welcomes people interested in fiber, yarn and fabric, including beginners and experienced participants. Visitors may bring a project they are already working on or come to learn more about the activity.
All ages are welcome, but children 12 and younger must be accompanied by a guardian.
Under the published monthly schedule, the next gathering falls on Nov. 2, subject to library confirmation.
Chess welcomes beginners
The supplied community announcement lists Seagoville Chess Club on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month and welcomes players of all skill levels, including beginners.
That differs from the Tuesday schedule listed on the library’s general services webpage. Because the announcements conflict, participants should call 972-287-7720 to confirm the meeting day and starting time before attending.
Summer reading continues the annual cycle
The library also lists an annual Summer Reading Club designed to encourage reading after school releases for summer.
Its 2026 “Unearth a Story” schedule has concluded. Families interested in next summer’s reading challenge should watch for a new announcement with updated dates, age eligibility, registration instructions and prize requirements.
Seagoville Public Library is located at 702 N. Highway 175. Parents can call 972-287-7720 to confirm individual sessions and ask about registration, space availability and caregiver requirements.
