Seagoville Animal Shelter Seeks Community Help

Date:

Blankets, sheets, bath towels, financial gifts, and adoptive homes can all make an immediate difference for animals at the Seagoville Animal Shelter.

The shelter and Seagoville Texas Animal Advocates & Rescue, better known as STAAR, are asking residents to think twice before throwing away gently used household linens.

Blankets, sheets, and bath towels that may no longer be needed at home can still provide comfort for dogs and cats waiting for their next home.

The request comes as the shelter continues caring for adoptable animals, including some that have spent an extended period waiting for a family.

Old Linens Can Become Shelter Supplies

A blanket that has been replaced, a set of sheets no longer being used, or an older bath towel can still have practical value at an animal shelter.

Those items help provide bedding, warmth, comfort, and clean materials for animals housed in kennels and other shelter areas.

The current STAAR message specifically asks residents not to throw away gently used blankets, sheets, and bath towels, but instead to consider donating them for shelter animals.

The request applies to usable items rather than household trash. Donated materials should be reasonably clean and suitable for continued use around dogs and cats.

For residents cleaning closets or replacing bedding, the donation request offers a simple way to reuse something they already own while helping local animals.

Financial Donations Help, Too

Residents who do not have linens to contribute can also help financially.

The City of Seagoville confirms that the Animal Shelter accepts monetary donations. Checks or money orders can be made payable to Seagoville Animal Shelter, with “donation” written in the memo line.

STAAR also works alongside the municipal shelter to support animals through rescue, adoption, and other assistance.

Residents using an online donation option should make sure they are donating through a link specifically connected to the shelter or STAAR rather than relying on PayPal’s general donation homepage. A generic PayPal donation page by itself does not identify which organization will receive the money.

Financial contributions can help animal-welfare organizations cover needs that donated blankets cannot address, including veterinary care, supplies, transportation, and other expenses associated with caring for and placing animals.

Dogs and Cats Still Need Homes

Material donations are important, but the shelter’s largest need remains permanent homes for adoptable animals.

The City of Seagoville continues to maintain an adoption program for dogs and cats at the shelter. The city directs residents to the Seagoville Animal Shelter Facebook page for photographs and updates on available pets.

Because adoption status can change quickly, anyone interested in a particular animal should contact the shelter directly before making a trip.

The shelter can be reached at 972-287-6838 or pets@seagoville.us.

The city’s adoption information also notes that animals are not made available for adoption until the required owner-release process has been completed or the applicable holding period has passed.

Longtime Shelter Pets Get Extra Help

Some animals need only a short stay before someone chooses them. Others wait considerably longer.

The shelter periodically uses adoption specials, including waived adoption fees for selected longtime residents, to give those animals another opportunity to get noticed.

Those promotions are especially important for dogs and cats that can be overlooked as newer animals enter the shelter.

A waived adoption fee does not mean the animal has less value or requires less commitment. It simply removes one financial barrier for an approved adopter and gives a longtime shelter resident another chance at leaving the kennel for a permanent home.

Residents interested in a free-adoption promotion should verify which animals currently qualify directly with the shelter, because individual availability and specials can change.

What Adoption Normally Includes

Outside special promotions, Seagoville’s adoption process provides more than simply transferring an animal to a new owner.

Current public adoption listings indicate that adoption packages may include services such as vaccinations, microchipping, and spay or neuter services, depending on the animal’s status at the time of adoption.

Prospective adopters should confirm the current fee and exactly what is included when speaking with shelter staff.

That conversation is also a good opportunity to ask about the animal’s temperament, medical history, approximate age, and any information shelter workers have learned during its stay.

Four Ways Residents Can Help

The current needs give residents several ways to support the shelter, even if adoption is not possible.

Residents can donate clean blankets, sheets, and bath towels, make a financial contribution, share photos and information about adoptable animals, or consider providing a permanent home to a dog or cat still waiting at the shelter.

Even sharing an adoption post can matter. The right photograph reaching the right family can sometimes make the difference for an animal that has been overlooked.

Before Buying, Check the Shelter

Anyone considering adding a dog or cat to the family may want to visit the shelter’s available animals before looking elsewhere.

Shelter adoption gives an existing animal another opportunity while opening space for the next stray, lost, or surrendered pet that needs care.

For longtime shelter animals, that opportunity can be particularly meaningful.

Some have spent weeks or longer watching people walk past their kennel. A reduced or waived adoption fee may help attract attention, but ultimately what they need is the same thing as every other shelter animal: someone willing to give them a permanent home.

The Seagoville Animal Shelter is located at 500 E. Farmers Road. The city currently lists shelter hours as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents should call 972-287-6838 before visiting to confirm an animal’s availability or ask about current adoption specials.
