Seagoville Dragons football delivered the biggest victory of the young season, the Crandall Pirates’ cross-country teams earned two top-three finishes at their home invitational, and the Seagoville Lady Dragons split a pair of volleyball matches during a busy opening week of September.
Crandall football also showed second-half fight at Rowlett but could not overcome an early deficit and four turnovers.

Seagoville Overwhelms Bryan Adams, 59-13
Seagoville turned its home opener into a runaway victory Friday night, defeating Bryan Adams 59-13 at Henry Stadium.
The Dragons scored 21 points in the first quarter and added 24 more in the second, building a commanding 45-6 halftime lead. Seagoville followed with two more touchdowns in the third quarter before closing out its first victory of the season.
The 59-point performance was a dramatic response to Seagoville’s 23-8 season-opening loss at Palestine.
Bryan Adams entered the game after scoring 42 points in a victory over Irving Nimitz, but the Cougars could not keep pace with the Dragons. Seagoville held Adams to one touchdown in the opening quarter and another in the fourth.
The victory evened Seagoville’s record at 1-1 as the Dragons prepare to begin district competition.
Seagoville remains at home Friday, Sept. 11, when it hosts Mesquite Poteet at 7:30 p.m. Poteet is also 1-1 after losing 51-21 to West Mesquite.
Crandall Rally Falls Short at Rowlett
Crandall faced its second consecutive Class 6A opponent Thursday and again remained competitive before falling 26-15 to Rowlett.
The Eagles struck quickly with touchdown passes covering 42 and 57 yards, taking a 14-0 lead into halftime. A third-quarter field goal increased the margin to 17 points before Crandall began its comeback.
The Pirates’ defense recorded a safety with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter. Hezekiah Jordan then returned the ensuing free kick 43 yards, and Darrik Ward finished the possession with a 37-yard touchdown run.
Rowlett answered with a touchdown, but Crandall continued to fight.
Quarterback Carlton Lewis connected with Jamari West for a 19-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 26-15. Jayden McCleary then returned a Rowlett fumble 72 yards to give the Pirates another opportunity inside the Eagles’ 25-yard line.
Crandall could not turn that possession into points, and Rowlett secured the victory with an interception.
Lewis completed 17 of 28 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown. Jordan led the Pirates with nine receptions for 110 yards, while Ward finished with 50 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Crandall scored all 15 of its points after halftime, but four turnovers — two interceptions and two lost fumbles — helped prevent the comeback.
The Pirates fell to 0-2 following road losses to Denton Braswell and Rowlett. Crandall plays its home opener Friday, Sept. 11, against Terrell at 7 p.m.
Seagoville Volleyball Splits Two Matches
Seagoville volleyball experienced both ends of a sweep during its two-match week.
The Lady Dragons opened September with a 3-0 loss to Woodrow Wilson on Tuesday. Wilson won the sets 25-17, 25-9 and 25-12.
Seagoville responded Friday with a convincing 3-0 victory over Thomas Jefferson.
The Lady Dragons controlled the match from beginning to end, winning 25-16, 25-18 and 25-10. The 15-point margin in the final set completed a strong bounce-back performance and improved Seagoville’s overall record to 11-11.
The Lady Dragons now have additional preparation time before traveling to Adamson on Friday, Sept. 11, for a 7:30 p.m. match.
Crandall Volleyball Result Remains Unreported
Crandall was scheduled to host Ursuline Academy on Thursday, Sept. 3, but a final varsity score had not been published on the publicly available school or results pages reviewed for this recap.
Because the result could not be independently verified, it is not being listed as a victory or loss.
The Lady Pirates entered the week with an 8-7 record after closing the Forney tournament with consecutive victories over Denison and Horn.
Crandall returns to action Tuesday at Midlothian before traveling to Ennis on Friday.
Crandall Runners Earn Two Top-Three Finishes
Crandall’s cross-country program produced one of the strongest overall performances of the week while hosting the Crandall Pirates XC Invitational on Saturday.
The Crandall varsity boys finished third with 65 points, only one point behind second-place North Forney. Garland Sachse won the boys division with 32 points.
Brayden Besherse led the Pirates with a seventh-place finish in 15 minutes, 40.30 seconds. Santana Gurrola followed in eighth at 15:59.30.
Leonardo Rivera placed 11th in 16:29.68, Diego Zapata finished 19th in 16:55.02, and freshman Abraham Colmenero completed Crandall’s scoring five by placing 20th in 16:56.85.
The Crandall varsity girls finished second with 51 points, trailing champion Garland Sachse and finishing four points ahead of North Forney.
Aliyah Sosa led the Lady Pirates with a fourth-place finish in 18:55.32. Freshman Jordan Dawson crossed next for Crandall, placing fifth in 19:30.87.
Barbara Roel Martinez finished 11th in 20:46.35, followed by Kali McIver in 20th and Piper Stepp in 22nd.
Crandall also placed second in the junior-varsity boys team standings. Matthew Lopez, Landon McKeever and Arturo Roel Martinez finished second, third and fourth, respectively, to lead the Pirates.
Seagoville had been included on the advance list of teams expected to compete, but no Seagoville runners appeared in the meet’s completed official results. No Dragons performances are therefore included in this recap.
District Football Arrives This Week
The next round of games brings the beginning of district football for Seagoville and the long-awaited home opener for Crandall.
The Dragons host Poteet on Friday in their District 5-5A Division II opener. Crandall welcomes Terrell for its final scheduled game before beginning District 7-5A Division I competition the following week.
Volleyball also continues with Seagoville traveling to Adamson and Crandall visiting Midlothian and Ennis.
Crandall team tennis is scheduled to host Midlothian Heritage at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
