Five Years of Data: What Seagoville’s Sexual Assault Reports Show
A review of Seagoville Police Department crime statistics from 2020 through 2024.

Seagoville police recorded 38 forcible rape offenses from 2020 through 2024. That is according to the department’s published crime statistics. Annual totals ranged from a low of six to a high of 11 during the five year span.
The city’s numbers do not show a steady rise or a steady decline. Instead they show real movement from year to year within a fairly narrow range.

Reports Peaked in 2021
The largest annual increase happened between 2020 and 2021. Reports rose from seven to 11 that year. That is an increase of four offenses, or 57.1%.
The total then dropped from 11 in 2021 to six in 2022. That decline of five offenses was the steepest drop of the five year span. The count held steady at six through 2023.
Reports rose again in 2024, climbing from six to eight. That is a two offense increase, or 33.3%.
Reading the Percentages
These swings look dramatic on paper. But the underlying counts were small each year, so a change of just a few cases produced a large percentage shift.
The 57.1% jump in 2021 reflected four added cases. The 45.5% drop in 2022 reflected five fewer cases. The 33.3% rise in 2024 reflected two added cases.
Five Year Distribution
The 38 offenses were not spread evenly across the five years. More than a quarter of the total came in 2021 alone.
The first two years produced 18 combined offenses. The final two years produced 14, a decrease of four cases, or 22.2%, between those groupings.
Viewed as a three year block, 2022 through 2024 produced 20 offenses. That compares with 18 offenses across 2020 and 2021. The gap is too small to point to a clear long term direction.
The year by year pattern moved up, down, flat, then up again. That reflects fluctuation, not a sustained trend in either direction.
A Small Share of Total Crime
Seagoville’s police table also lists total offenses across major categories each year. Forcible rape made up a small but serious share of those totals.

Across all five years, forcible rape accounted for about 2% of the 1,917 offenses listed in the city’s major offense totals. The category’s largest annual share came in 2021, at roughly 3% of that year’s 364 listed offenses.
Its smallest share came in 2022, at about 1.4% of 423 listed offenses. The 2024 total made up about 2.2% of that year’s 359 listed offenses, the second highest annual share in the span.
Five of Eight 2024 Cases Came in Summer
A monthly department report breaks down how the eight 2024 offenses were spread across the year. Reports appeared in only four of the twelve months.
No cases were recorded in January, February, May, June or the final four months of the year.
Five of the eight annual cases, or 62.5%, occurred during July and August alone. All eight of the year’s cases had been recorded by the end of August, with none added over the final four months.
This clustering does not prove the cases were connected. It also does not confirm a true seasonal pattern. The published statistics offer counts only, not the circumstances behind each report.
What the Statistics Do Not Show
The public tables do not name victims, alleged offenders or locations. They do not show whether people involved knew each other, or whether several reports stemmed from one incident.
A reported offense is not the same as a conviction. Reports, investigations, arrests and court outcomes are separate stages of the justice process, and the city’s summary does not break those stages down by year.
Police statistics also cannot capture assaults that were never reported. The totals reflect recorded offenses only, not the full scope of sexual violence in the community.
What the Numbers Establish
- Seagoville recorded 38 forcible rape offenses from 2020 through 2024, an average of 7.6 per year.
- Annual totals peaked at 11 in 2021, fell to six in 2022, held at six in 2023 and rose to eight in 2024.
- The 2024 total was 14.3% above 2020 but 27.3% below the 2021 peak.

A fuller picture would require consistent yearly data on case clearances, arrests and court outcomes. Any such reporting should continue to protect the identity and privacy of survivors.
