Seagoville and Crandall high school athletes closed August with one of the busiest weeks of the fall sports season so far.
Football officially joined the schedule with both teams opening on the road Friday night. Volleyball continued at a rapid pace with tournament and regular-season matches, Crandall cross country traveled to Wylie, and team tennis continued its early-season schedule.

Football: Dragons Fall at Palestine in Season Opener
Seagoville opened the 2026 football season Friday with a 23-8 road loss to Palestine.
The Dragons entered the game with an experienced group of offensive playmakers returning from last year’s playoff team, but Palestine gave new head coach Ty Robinson a victory in his debut with the Wildcats.
The loss puts Seagoville at 0-1 heading into its home opener.
The Dragons return to Henry Stadium on Friday, Sept. 4, when they host Bryan Adams at 7:30 p.m.
Braswell Pulls Away From Crandall, 35-24
Crandall also opened its football season on the road, taking on Class 6A Denton Braswell at Carrico Stadium.
The Pirates remained within striking distance but could not finish the job as Braswell pulled away for a 35-24 victory.
One of the encouraging signs for Crandall was the immediate production of senior receiver Jeremiah Douglas.
Douglas finished with five receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns, beginning his senior season with another big performance after earning district Offensive MVP honors last year.
The Pirates finished with 157 rushing yards and 128 passing yards in the loss.
Crandall is 0-1 and gets a short turnaround before its second consecutive Class 6A opponent. The Pirates travel to Rowlett on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Seagoville Volleyball Packs Eight Matches Into the Week
Few area teams had a busier week than Seagoville volleyball. The Lady Dragons played eight matches from Tuesday through Saturday, finishing the stretch with three victories and five losses.
Seagoville started the week by sweeping Molina, 3-0, on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons won the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores before finishing the match with a 25-17 victory in the third.
Tournament competition produced a much more difficult stretch. Seagoville dropped two-set matches against Berkner, Lone Star and Denton Guyer before returning to regular competition Friday against South Oak Cliff.
The Lady Dragons responded with one of their strongest performances of the week. Seagoville swept South Oak Cliff, 25-20, 25-10 and 25-14.
Saturday brought another full tournament schedule. The Lady Dragons lost 2-0 to Ovilla Christian, defeated Roosevelt 2-0 and then closed the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Creekview.
The volume of matches has given coach Zavier Fields and the Lady Dragons plenty of early-season court time. Seagoville returns home Tuesday against W.T. White.
Crandall Volleyball Finishes Strong at Forney Tournament
Crandall volleyball also faced a demanding schedule and ended the week moving in the right direction. The Lady Pirates opened Tuesday with a five-set road battle against Forney. Crandall pushed the Jackrabbits to the limit before falling 3-2.
The Lady Pirates then returned to Forney later in the week for tournament competition and quickly bounced back. Crandall swept Chapel Hill 2-0 and Skyline 2-0, while its match against Panther Creek went three sets before the Pirates fell 2-1.
Saturday produced the strongest finish of the week. Crandall defeated Denison 2-0 and then edged Horn 2-1, giving the Lady Pirates consecutive victories to close the tournament.
Crandall finished the six verified matches from the week with a 4-2 record and improved to 8-7 overall.
Coach Courtney Posey’s team now returns home with a winning record after navigating one of the more demanding portions of its early schedule.
Crandall hosts Ursuline Academy on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Crandall Cross Country Competes at DUBEast Invitational
Crandall’s cross-country teams were back in action Friday at the DUBEast XC Invitational at Founders Park in Wylie. The meet was hosted by Wylie East and brought together runners from a large field of North Texas programs.
Crandall ISD officially listed the Pirates for the Aug. 28 meet, and Texas MileSplit confirms that the DUBEast Invitational was held Friday. Complete individual Crandall placements and times, however, were not available by publication time.
No Seagoville varsity cross-country result could be independently verified for the Aug. 24-30 period. That changes this weekend.
Crandall will host the 2026 Crandall Pirates XC Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Seagoville is also scheduled to compete.
That will put the Dragons and Pirates at the same meet for the first time this season and should provide a much clearer early comparison of the two local programs.
Crandall Team Tennis Travels to Ennis
Crandall varsity team tennis traveled to Ennis on Tuesday for a scheduled match against the Lions, followed by a junior-varsity home match against Ennis on Thursday. A final varsity team score had not been published by Monday morning.
No verified Seagoville varsity team-tennis result was publicly available for Aug. 24-30.

Football Takes Center Stage, But Fall Sports Are Now in Full Swing
The arrival of football changes the rhythm of the local sports calendar.
Friday nights will naturally draw most of the attention, but volleyball is already deep into its season, cross country is beginning to build toward district competition, and team tennis is moving through its fall schedule.
This week will bring another important set of tests.
Crandall football gets only six days to prepare for Rowlett. Seagoville finally gets to play at home against Bryan Adams. Volleyball continues for both schools, and Saturday’s Crandall Pirate XC Invitational will bring Seagoville and Crandall runners together on the same course.
