Fall sports hit another gear this week for Seagoville and Crandall, highlighted by the 2026 football season openers Friday night, two volleyball dates for Seagoville, a road volleyball match for Crandall and Seagoville’s first major cross-country event of the season.
The Dragons and Pirates both reached the football playoffs last season and return several proven players, giving Friday’s openers additional interest.
Here is this week’s Prep Sports Calendar for Seagoville and Crandall, with recent results, records and athletes to watch.
Tuesday, Aug. 25
Seagoville Girls Volleyball — vs. Molina, 7:30 p.m.
Seagoville returns home after a busy opening stretch that included tournament competition last week.
The Lady Dragons were 6-3 in the latest posted results after suffering a 2-0 tournament loss to Ford on Friday. Seagoville had opened the season strongly and entered last week’s schedule riding a five-match winning streak.
Molina provides the next test Tuesday night. The Jaguars opened their season with a 3-0 victory over Pinkston.
Seagoville then has only three days before another road match Friday night.
Crandall Girls Volleyball — at Forney, 5:30 p.m.
Crandall takes a 4-5 record to Forney after splitting its two varsity matches last week.
The Lady Pirates swept Dallas Roosevelt 3-0 on Tuesday, then faced a much tougher challenge Friday at Class 6A Coppell and fell 3-0.
Crandall has already played a demanding early schedule that included Plano West, Ovilla Christian, Lancaster, Mesquite Horn, Nimitz and Seguin.
The Pirates have wins over Roosevelt, Nimitz, Horn and Seguin heading into Tuesday’s trip to Forney.
Individual 2026 volleyball statistics have not yet been entered on Crandall’s public team page, so early-season team results provide the clearest picture of the Lady Pirates so far.
Friday, Aug. 28
Crandall Football — at Denton Braswell, 7 p.m.
The Pirates officially begin their first season in Class 5A Division I with a road matchup against Class 6A Denton Braswell.
Crandall finished 7-4 last season, earned a playoff berth and averaged more than 37 points during its seven victories. The Pirates’ season ended against eventual Class 5A Division II state champion South Oak Cliff.
Several of Crandall’s most productive offensive players are back.
Junior running back Darrik Ward Jr. rushed for more than 1,200 yards with 17 rushing touchdowns in nine games last season. Senior receiver Jeremiah Douglas produced a 1,000-yard receiving season with 11 touchdown catches, while senior quarterback Isaac Briones returns after throwing seven touchdowns against only one interception in his recorded 2025 statistics.
Douglas, Ward and Briones give head coach Darrell Lewis experienced playmakers as Crandall makes the jump to Division I.
Crandall also returns senior receiver/cornerback King Franklin, senior linebacker Cayson Hardman, senior defensive end Colton Craft and several other players who saw varsity action last year.
Braswell enters the season looking for improvement after finishing 2-8 in 2025 against a Class 6A schedule.
Friday’s game will be the first opportunity to see how Crandall’s experienced offensive core translates to its new classification.
Seagoville Football — at Palestine, 7:30 p.m.
Seagoville begins Year Three under head coach Gordon Booker with a road trip to Palestine.
The Dragons finished 5-6 last season, went 4-3 in district play and reached the Class 5A Division II playoffs after improving from three victories in Booker’s first season.
A large portion of Seagoville’s 2025 production returns.
Senior Kollin Williams is back after earning first-team all-district recognition at quarterback. In six games with individual statistics available last season, Williams recorded 650 rushing yards and 437 passing yards, making him one of the Dragons’ most dangerous dual-threat players.
Senior receiver James Roberts recorded 23 catches for 314 yards and four touchdowns in eight games with statistics available. Rickey Wilkins Jr., Jayln Beauchamp, Josiah Royal and Davien Rucker are also among the experienced seniors returning from last year’s playoff team.
Williams, Beauchamp and Royal earned first-team all-district honors last season, while Wilkins, Roberts and Rucker were among Seagoville’s second-team selections.
The Dragons face a Palestine program that finished 1-9 last season, although the Wildcats return several younger players who gained varsity experience during that rebuilding year.
For Seagoville, the opener is an opportunity to establish momentum before returning home Sept. 4.
Seagoville Girls Volleyball — at South Oak Cliff, 7:30 p.m.
While the football team is opening its season in Palestine, the Lady Dragons will also be on the road Friday night against South Oak Cliff.
It will be Seagoville’s second match of the week following Tuesday’s home contest against Molina.
The match provides another early-season test before the schedule turns toward September and the beginning of district competition.
Saturday, Aug. 29
Seagoville Boys and Girls Cross Country — Greenhill Luke’s Locker Six-Mile Relay, Norbuck Park
Seagoville joins more than 50 programs from Texas and Oklahoma for the 41st Annual Greenhill Luke’s Locker Six-Mile Relay at Norbuck Park in Dallas.
The unusual relay format has been part of the North Texas cross-country schedule for more than four decades and includes hay-bale obstacles along the course.
The varsity boys race begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the varsity girls at 7:35 a.m. Junior varsity competition starts at 8:30 a.m.
Among the Seagoville distance athletes who showed promise during spring track season was Isabella Vazquez. Vazquez won the 1,600-meter run in 6:25.47 at the Eddie Payne-Carter Shootout in March and finished second in the 3,200 at 13:53.86.
Saturday’s meet should provide the first significant early-season measuring stick for the Dragons against a deep field that includes Highland Park, Jesuit, Prosper, McKinney, North Crowley, Rowlett and numerous private-school programs.
Crandall Cross Country Has an Open Week
Crandall does not have a high-school cross-country meet currently listed for Aug. 24-29 after competing at the Kaufman Run With The Lions meet last week.
One of the Pirates’ top distance runners to watch this season is Brayden Besherse, who entered the Kaufman meet with a listed 15:46.46 personal best in the 5K.
Last season, Besherse finished third at Crandall’s home invitational and later represented the Pirates during a strong distance-running season.
Crandall returns to competition on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Pirates host the 2026 Crandall Pirate XC Invitational at Crandall High School. Racing begins at 7:30 a.m.
Tennis Schedule
Both Seagoville and Crandall sponsor tennis, but no varsity team-tennis match for either school was located on the publicly available schedules reviewed for Aug. 24-29.
