Residents looking for something to do around Seagoville, Crandall and Combine this weekend have choices ranging from high school sports and dirt-track racing to wetland activities, pet adoptions, a church food distribution and an indoor library stop.
The heat will remain a major factor. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to climb into the 106-107 degree range through the weekend, making hydration and frequent breaks especially important for anyone attending outdoor events.
Lady Dragons Continue Conrad Volleyball Tournament
Seagoville’s varsity volleyball team has two matches scheduled Friday as the Lady Dragons continue play in the Dallas Conrad Tournament.
Seagoville is scheduled to face Ford at 2 p.m., followed by Red Oak at 4 p.m.
The Conrad Tournament continues through Saturday. Saturday opponents and match times can depend on tournament results, so fans should check the latest tournament schedule before traveling.
Lady Pirates Travel to Coppell Friday
Crandall volleyball heads to Coppell for a full program of matches Friday evening.
Crandall ISD lists both JV Gold and JV Black matches at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity Lady Pirates scheduled to face Coppell at 6:30 p.m.
Crandall returns to the court Tuesday, Aug. 25, with another road match at Forney.
No Regular-Season Football Games This Weekend
Seagoville and Crandall football fans will have to wait one more week for the start of the regular season.
Crandall completed its scheduled preseason work Thursday with a scrimmage against Woodrow Wilson. The Pirates open the season Friday, Aug. 28, on the road against Braswell at 7 p.m.
Seagoville’s season also begins Aug. 28. The Dragons travel to Palestine for a 7:30 p.m. non-district opener.
Cross-Country Schedule Needs a Last-Minute Check
Cross-country families should confirm Saturday’s plans directly with their coaches before making a trip to Tyler.
An earlier Texas MileSplit listing showed both Crandall and Seagoville among the teams scheduled for the Tyler Legacy XC Invitational at Lindsey Park on Saturday. However, the more recently updated participating-team list no longer includes either school.
The Tyler meet itself begins with a rolling start at 7 a.m., but participation by the Pirates and Dragons should be considered unconfirmed until families receive information from their respective programs.
No Confirmed Weekend Tennis Match
Current public schedules did not show a confirmed varsity team-tennis match for either Seagoville or Crandall from Friday through Sunday as of Friday morning.
Team tennis is in its fall season, so players and families should continue checking their school or team communications for late schedule additions or changes.
Ronny Sigman Memorial Takes Over RPM Speedway Saturday
RPM Speedway in Crandall will host one of its biggest programs of the month Saturday with the Ronny Sigman Memorial Race featuring the Touring Outlaw Modified Series and Toddler Mods.
The program also includes Rick Murray Electric Factory Stocks, Riddle Brothers Limited Modifieds and iStocks. The TOMS Modified feature pays $2,500 to win, while the Limited Modified winner is listed for $750 and the Factory Stock and iStock winners for $650 each.
The pit gate opens at 5 p.m., followed by the grandstands at 6. The regular drivers meeting begins at 7, hot laps are scheduled for 7:30 and racing begins at 8.
General admission is $20. Seniors, military members and children are listed at $15, while children under 6 are admitted free. Adult pit passes are $40, pit passes for children ages 2-10 are $20 and children under 2 are free.
RPM Speedway is located at 1267 County Road 4104 in Crandall.
Toddler Mod Night Gives Kids Ages 4-7 a Turn on the Track
Saturday’s program will also include Toddler Mod Night for children ages 4-7, with registration required between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. just inside the front grandstand ticket window.
RPM is asking families to respect the registration window. Every child registered during that period will be able to race. Children bringing their own cars must have them in the pits by 7 p.m.
Age groups will remain separated, and the Toddler Mods will run feature races only, with assignments made during registration.
Each racer will need a signed minor release. Families entering from the grandstands may have one adult per racer accompany the child onto the track. Adults without a pit pass will be required to sign a waiver before entering the restricted infield area.
RPM has a limited supply of bicycle helmets available, although families are encouraged to bring their own.
The Toddler Mod drivers meeting will immediately follow the regular 7 p.m. drivers meeting and is expected to begin around 7:20 p.m. in the grassy area near the registration booth and main concessions. Toddler Mod racing will take place during intermission.
Dollar Days Continue at John Bunker Sands Wetland Center
The John Bunker Sands Wetland Center in Combine continues its August Dollar Days promotion Saturday.
Adult admission is $1 throughout August, while children ages 12 and younger are admitted free. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 655 Martin Lane.
Educators have an additional opportunity Saturday with an Education Open House from noon to 4 p.m. The come-and-go program is free for educators, with no admission charge. A free lunch is available to educators who register.
The Wetland Center is closed Sunday.
First Baptist Crandall Food Bank Opens Saturday
The Janis Evans Memorial Food Bank at First Baptist Crandall will hold its regular fourth-Saturday food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon.
The food bank is free and open to anyone in need at 400 E. Mowry St. in Crandall. First Baptist conducts the distribution on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
For Sunday, First Baptist Crandall lists prayer at 9 a.m., Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.
Clear the Shelters Continues in Seagoville
The Seagoville Animal Shelter is among the North Texas shelters participating in the 2026 Clear the Shelters campaign, which continues through Aug. 31.
Residents interested in meeting adoptable dogs and cats can visit the shelter at 500 E. Farmers Road. Seagoville lists public shelter hours from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday.
Because individual shelters set their own Clear the Shelters adoption specials, prospective adopters can call the Seagoville Animal Shelter at 972-287-6838 to confirm the current promotion and availability of a specific animal before visiting.
Saturday at the Crandall-Combine Community Library
Families looking for an air-conditioned weekend option can visit the Crandall-Combine Community Library at 500 W. Lewis St.
The library is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, offering books, computers, Wi-Fi and other library resources without requiring families to spend the hottest part of the day outdoors.
