Seagoville and Crandall high school athletes opened the fall season with a full week of volleyball and cross-country competition from Aug. 10-16, including tournament matches and Saturday meets at Princeton and Maypearl.
Seagoville Lady Dragons Volleyball
Coach Zavier Fields’ squad began the season Tuesday with a five-set, 3-2 victory over DeSoto. The Lady Dragons played twice Thursday, falling 2-0 to Connally in the SOC Tournament before defeating Wilmer-Hutchins 2-0. On Friday, Seagoville swept Jefferson 3-0.
The Lady Dragons added three victories Saturday, defeating South Garland 2-0, Wilmer-Hutchins 2-0 and Ferris 2-0.
Crandall Lady Pirates Volleyball
Coach Courtney Posey’s team opened the regular season Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Caddo Mills. The Lady Pirates played three matches Friday, falling 2-1 to Ovilla Christian, defeating Nimitz 2-1 and losing 2-0 to Plano West.
Saturday brought another three-match day. Crandall defeated Horn 2-0 and Seguin 2-1 before Lancaster edged the Lady Pirates 2-1.
Seagoville Cross Country
Coach Felicia Boyefio’s squads competed Saturday at the Princeton Invitational at Princeton High School. Published results show the Dragons participating in the junior varsity girls and boys 3,200-meter races.
In the JV girls race, Isabella Vazquez finished 24th in 16:22.98, while Isabella Lopez placed 52nd in 19:04.74.
In the JV boys race, Rasha Kuna finished 72nd in 14:07.09, and Jaden Solis was 106th in 15:13.99.
Crandall Cross Country
Coach Brad Scoggin’s team competed Saturday in the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational at Lakeview Camp in Maypearl, with Pirate runners competing in varsity and junior varsity 5,000-meter races.
Varsity Boys — 12th Place
Crandall’s varsity boys finished 12th with 287 points and a five-runner team time of 1:24:47.4.
Brayden Besherse led the Pirates in 38th place at 16:15.10, followed by Santana Gurrola, 46th, 16:36.10; Leonardo Rivera, 71st, 17:00.80; Andres Barns-Baldaguez, 88th, 17:17.50; Matthew Lopez, 100th, 17:37.70; Alexander Roberts, 106th, 17:50.30; and Major Gaspard, 116th, 18:16.00.
Varsity Girls — Incomplete Team Result
Crandall had four finishers in the varsity girls race, leaving the Lady Pirates without a complete team score or team placing in the official results.
Aliyah Sosa led Crandall in 30th place at 19:41.10. Linden Gibbs finished 70th in 20:59.70, Barbara Roel Martinez was 94th in 22:01.50, and Kali McIver placed 114th in 23:30.90.
JV Boys — 9th Place
The Crandall JV boys placed ninth with 234 points and recorded a five-runner team time of 1:36:55.7.
Landon McKeever finished 23rd in 18:18.60, Arturo Roel Martinez was 39th in 18:48.50, Abraham Colmenero placed 42nd in 18:52.40, Mattison Windham finished 107th in 20:21.60, Javier Mendez was 116th in 20:34.50, and Iori Cardenas finished 169th in 22:19.50.
JV Girls — 15th Place
Crandall’s JV girls finished 15th with 347 points, posting a five-runner team time of 2:12:33.2.
Piper Stepp led the group in 74th place at 24:47.20, followed by Aubrey Epp, 100th, 26:09.40; Avery McIntire, 104th, 26:25.30; Veralynn Salameh, 113th, 27:13.00; Kara Besherse, 122nd, 27:58.20; Vianette Corral, 124th, 28:10.30; Angeline Martinez Garza, 143rd, 30:29.60; Sophia Rangel, 151st, 38:08.80; and Jazlynn Ojeda, 152nd, 40:31.50.
