The Class of 2004 graduate became a national high school basketball star, an elite college player at the University of Texas, and one of the most accomplished power forwards of his NBA generation.

His professional résumé places him in a category of his own among former Seagoville athletes.

Aldridge became the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, earned seven NBA All Star selections and finished a 16 season career with more than 20,000 points.

A Dominant Senior Season at Seagoville

Aldridge was a four-year starter for coach Robert Allen at Seagoville and developed into one of the top high school prospects in the nation.

As a senior, he averaged 28.9 points and 13.4 rebounds while leading the Dragons to the District 10 4A championship and the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

That season brought a long list of honors. Aldridge was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A Player of the Year, became a McDonald’s All American, and earned first team all state recognition for the second time.

His senior year also included recognition away from the court. Dallas ISD named him its Scholar Athlete of the Year, adding an academic honor to a season that had already established him as one of the premier basketball players in Texas.

Seagoville’s playoff run ended with a one point loss to Dallas Lincoln in the state quarterfinals. Aldridge delivered 39 points, nine rebounds, and six blocked shots in that game, closing his high school career with one of his strongest performances.

From Seagoville to the University of Texas

Aldridge stayed in state and signed with the University of Texas, joining a highly regarded Longhorn recruiting class.

He started every college game he played and quickly showed the size, touch, and defensive ability that had made him a national recruit at Seagoville.

A hip injury ended his freshman season after 16 games, but he returned for a breakthrough sophomore year.

Aldridge averaged 15.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while helping Texas finish 30 and 7, win the Big 12 regular season championship and reach the NCAA Elite Eight.

The conference recognized his impact on both ends of the floor. Aldridge was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and earned first team All Big 12 honors before declaring for the NBA Draft after two seasons in Austin.

The No. 2 Pick in the NBA Draft

On June 28, 2006, the Chicago Bulls selected Aldridge with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft. His rights were traded to the Portland Trail Blazers that night, beginning the longest chapter of his professional career.

Aldridge spent nine seasons with Portland before signing with the San Antonio Spurs in 2015. He later finished his playing career with the Brooklyn Nets, retiring after 16 NBA seasons.

Seven NBA All Star Selections

Aldridge developed into one of the league’s most reliable frontcourt scorers and earned seven NBA All Star selections. He was chosen five consecutive times from 2012 through 2016, then returned to the All Star Game in 2018 and 2019.

He also earned All NBA honors five times, including two selections to the second team and three to the third team.

His combination of post scoring, midrange shooting and rebounding made him a consistent presence among the NBA’s top big men for more than a decade.

By the end of his career, Aldridge had played 1,076 regular season games and scored 20,558 points. He also collected 8,736 rebounds and 1,187 blocked shots, numbers that reflect the durability and production behind his long NBA career.

Recognition at Texas and Dallas ISD

The University of Texas inducted Aldridge into its Men’s Hall of Honor in 2016. The recognition placed him among the most accomplished athletes in the history of the Longhorns program.

Dallas ISD later honored his high school legacy by inducting him into its Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the 2021 class.

The district specifically recognized the career that began at Seagoville, where Aldridge had become the Class 4A Player of the Year before moving on to college and professional basketball.

A Seagoville Career That Reached the Highest Level

For Seagoville High School, Aldridge represents the clearest example of a local athlete reaching the highest level of his sport.

His path started in a Dragons uniform and eventually included college stardom, a top two NBA Draft selection and more than a decade among the league’s premier players.

More than 20 years after his graduation from SHS, the scale of that career remains remarkable.

Seagoville High School has produced its share of standout athletes, respected coaches and community fixtures over the decades. Yet when it comes to the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame, the Dragons have only one name in the record book. That is about to change, at least in the nomination pool, and Shop in Seagoville wants your help deciding who deserves to join him.

One Name, One Legacy

Since the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame was founded in 2017, only one Seagoville High School product has been inducted: NBA veteran LaMarcus Aldridge.  He starred for the Dragons basketball team, earned Class 4A Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2004, signed with the University of Texas and went on to a fifteen year NBA career as a seven time All Star.

Aldridge was inducted as part of the 2021 Hall of Fame class alongside future NBA Hall of Famer Chris Bosh and eight other honorees. According to the district’s official all time inductee list, Aldridge remains the only individual with Seagoville ties in the Hall.

That leaves a gap. Seagoville has coached championship level teams, produced multi sport standouts and had voices call Dragons football on Friday nights for generations. None of them have been formally recognized by the district. Shop in Seagoville believes that should change, and nominations for the next class are open right now.

What the Hall of Fame Recognizes

According to Dallas ISD, the Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes and honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the district’s storied high school athletic programs, with nominees considered in one of three categories: Past Dallas ISD Student Athlete, Former Dallas ISD Coach, or Contributor. The district explains that honorees may include former student athletes, coaches, administrators, contest officials, media personnel, sports medicine personnel, athletic trainers, or distinguished volunteers, and that nominees may be active or retired from their field.

Every nominee must clear a high bar. Per Dallas ISD, honorees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character, and applicants with felony convictions are not eligible for consideration.

How the Process Works

Dallas ISD is currently accepting nominations, and mailed nominations must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, September 30, 2026, addressed to the Dallas ISD Athletics Department at 9400 North Central Expressway, Suite 608, Dallas, Texas 75231. Electronic nominations sent to athletichalloffame@dallasisd.org must be received by five p.m. on that same date. Nominees who are not selected remain in the pool for future consideration by the Hall of Fame selection committee, so a nomination made this year is never wasted effort.
