SEAGOVILLE — Pickup trucks and familiar sedans figure prominently in vehicle-theft statistics, but Seagoville’s publicly posted crime figures do not identify which makes and models thieves take most often within the city.

That distinction matters for residents trying to separate a regional warning from a documented local pattern.

A vehicle’s appearance on a national most-stolen list does not establish that it leads theft reports in Seagoville.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau’s March 2026 analysis counted 21,638 vehicle thefts in the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area during 2025, placing the region sixth nationally by total thefts. Texas recorded 75,269.

Nationally, the Hyundai Elantra led the organization’s 2025 model rankings, followed by the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Honda Civic.

The Silverado accounted for 16,764 reported thefts nationwide. The Ford F-150 ranked seventh, with 10,102.

Those figures establish a broader concern for owners of both pickups and passenger cars. They do not provide a Seagoville ranking or a Dallas–Fort Worth ranking by model.

Seagoville Police Department’s published National Incident-Based Reporting System table lists motor vehicle theft separately from other theft.

Its 2024–2025 comparison shows 94 and 60 offenses, respectively. However, the document is labeled “YTD Figures” and does not state a clear reporting cutoff.

Those numbers should not be presented as confirmed full-calendar-year totals without clarification.

The table also provides no breakdown by make, model, model year, parking location or hour.

It cannot establish whether driveways, apartment parking lots, shopping centers or other locations account for the most thefts.

Answering those questions requires incident-level records covering a defined period.

A useful comparison would examine all of 2024 and 2025, followed by matching January–September periods for 2025 and 2026.

The analysis would need to distinguish vehicles stolen within Seagoville from vehicles stolen elsewhere and recovered here.

It would also need to separate completed thefts from attempts and identify multiple vehicles taken in the same incident.

Time information requires similar care. The hour a theft was reported may differ substantially from when it occurred.

A vehicle discovered missing in the morning could have disappeared at any point overnight.

Even a complete model ranking would measure frequency rather than each vehicle’s probability of being stolen.

A common pickup may generate more theft reports partly because more residents own one. Measuring relative risk would require a reliable count of vehicles exposed to theft.

For now, the verified finding is narrower than a “most-stolen in Seagoville” headline would suggest: vehicle theft remains a substantial regional problem, while the city’s published summary leaves its most-targeted models unidentified.

The insurance crime bureau recommends locking vehicles, taking keys, closing windows, parking in well-lit areas and never leaving an engine running unattended.

It also recommends considering additional protection such as steering-wheel locks, alarms and tracking devices.

For Seagoville drivers, those precautions are actionable today.

A defensible local ranking must wait for records showing which vehicles were actually taken, where and during what period.
