Seagoville’s 2026 schedule runs the full spectrum, from the defending Class 5A Division II state champion to programs still working to rebuild.
The Dragons open with non district games against Palestine and Bryan Adams before an eight game District 5-5A Division II slate begins.
The rankings below run from toughest matchup to most favorable, based on 2025 performance, returning talent, all district recognition, preseason projections, and matchup difficulty rather than last year’s record alone.
1. South Oak Cliff
- Date: Oct. 8, at Seagoville
- 2025 record: 14-1, Class 5A Division II state champion
- 2025 result: Seagoville lost 48-0
- Difficulty: Extremely High
There is a real gap between South Oak Cliff and everyone else on this schedule. The Golden Bears have reached five consecutive state championship games and enter 2026 ranked No. 1 in Class 5A Division II by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
South Oak Cliff lost significant talent at running back, but quarterback Jayden Williams returns after earning district Offensive MVP honors.
First team linemen Brian Swanson and Zion Ragster are also back, and Cody Smith and Jaderian Jones headline a defense that should again be one of the area’s best.
2. Mesquite Poteet
- Date: Sept. 11, at Seagoville
- 2025 record: 3-7 (previous district)
- Projection: Second in District 5-5A Division II
- Difficulty: Very High
Poteet’s 2025 record does not tell the full story. Much of the Pirates’ most important offensive talent was young and returns in 2026, including quarterback Isaiah Hall and receivers Kyler Cornelious and Jaiden Wines.
Cornelious, Wines, and Hall all earned all district recognition in Poteet’s previous district, and several defensive contributors return as well. Seagoville draws Poteet in the district opener, before either team has much time to settle into league play.
3. Samuell
- Date: Oct. 2, at Samuell
- 2025 record: 7-3, playoff berth
- 2025 result: Seagoville won 41-38
- Difficulty: Very High
Samuell took one of the biggest steps forward in the district last season, improving from a single win in 2024 to a playoff berth. That leap is reflected in a projected third place finish in 2026.
The Spartans return legitimate talent on both sides of the ball, including receiver Gregory Stewart, linemen Josha Sternes and Isaiah Cook, linebacker Justin Banks, and cornerback Jakyvion Spears.
Seagoville needed a three point margin to beat Samuell last season, and this year’s rematch comes on the road.
4. Wilson
- Date: Oct. 23, at Seagoville
- 2025 result: Seagoville lost 34-27
- Projection: Fourth in District 5-5A Division II
- Difficulty: High
Wilson already proved it can beat Seagoville, doing so in a game that carried real playoff weight last season.
The Wildcats return running back Eithan Ramirez and quarterback Reid Kirkland, both of whom earned all district recognition in 2025.
Dave Campbell’s projects Wilson one spot ahead of Seagoville in the district standings. That makes the October 23 meeting one of the most important games on the Dragons’ schedule.
5. Hillcrest
- Date: Oct. 16, at Hillcrest
- 2025 record: 6-5, playoff berth
- 2025 result: Seagoville lost 29-14
- Difficulty: High
Hillcrest belongs in the same tier as Wilson for a simple reason: the Panthers also beat Seagoville last season. Hillcrest has reached the postseason regularly and returns enough talent to remain dangerous, particularly at home.
Preseason projections put Seagoville slightly ahead of Hillcrest, but the gap between the two programs looks thin enough that this game could go either way.
6. Bryan Adams
- Date: Sept. 4, at Seagoville
- 2025 record: 2-8
- Difficulty: Moderate
Bryan Adams is Seagoville’s second and final non district opponent. The Cougars have not posted a winning season since 2021, but they compete in Class 5A Division I and should offer a useful early test.
Timing is the bigger concern for Seagoville. If the quarterback situation remains unsettled entering Week 2, the Dragons will want to establish their offensive identity here before Poteet arrives the following week.
7. Adamson
- Date: Sept. 18, at Adamson
- 2025 record: 2-8
- 2025 result: Seagoville won 56-21
- Difficulty: Moderate
Adamson has produced only one winning season over the past several years, and Seagoville handled the Leopards comfortably in 2025. The bigger risk is scheduling rather than talent.
This game follows the district opener against Poteet, which creates a real chance for a letdown if Seagoville is still processing an emotional Week 3 result. On paper, it remains a game the Dragons need to win.
8. Molina
- Date: Oct. 30, at Molina
- 2025 record: 0-10
- Projection: Ahead of Adamson and Jefferson
- Difficulty: Moderate to Low
Molina is trying to recover from a winless 2025 season, but Dave Campbell’s still projects the Jaguars ahead of both Adamson and Jefferson in the district standings. That suggests more competitiveness than last year’s record shows.
The bigger factor is timing. This is Seagoville’s regular season finale, played on the road, and it could become a must win game if the fourth playoff spot is still in play.
9. Palestine
- Date: Aug. 28, at Palestine
- 2025 record: 1-9
- Difficulty: Moderate to Low
Palestine finished 1-9 last season and competes in Class 4A Division I, making this a favorable matchup on paper. It is also Seagoville’s season opener, which adds real uncertainty.
The Dragons will be breaking in new defensive starters and may still be sorting out their quarterback rotation. A clean road win would be an encouraging start, while a loss would raise immediate questions.
10. Jefferson
- Date: Sept. 25, at Seagoville
- 2025 record: 1-9
- 2025 result: Seagoville won 49-0
- Difficulty: Favorable
Jefferson enters 2026 as the opponent Seagoville should be most heavily favored to beat. The Patriots have managed only one four win season since 2018, and Seagoville routed them by 49 points in 2025.
District games always carry some risk, but this is the type of matchup a playoff contender is expected to control, and Seagoville gets it at home.
Where the Schedule Gets Difficult
Seagoville’s non district games against Palestine and Bryan Adams offer a chance to settle personnel questions before Poteet immediately raises the level of competition in the district opener.
The most demanding stretch arrives in October, with road and home games against Samuell, South Oak Cliff, Hillcrest, and Wilson in quick succession.
Three of those four teams are projected ahead of or directly around Seagoville in the district race.
South Oak Cliff remains the championship measuring stick, but beating the Golden Bears is unlikely to define Seagoville’s season.
The more realistic battle is with Poteet, Samuell, Wilson, and Hillcrest for positioning behind South Oak Cliff, and winning enough of those games would make a return to the playoffs a realistic outcome.
