Dallas ISD families will have an opportunity to receive free bags of non-perishable food during a drive-thru distribution Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Resource Center South in Dallas.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at 4401 S. Second Ave., Dallas, with vehicles entering from the Bertrand Avenue side of the facility. The distribution is being promoted by Dallas ISD Resource Center South in partnership with Cummins.
Organizers plan to provide free drawstring bags filled with dry goods to the first 300 families. Distribution will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
What Families Will Receive
According to the event announcement, each bag is expected to contain a selection of non-perishable foods and other meal supplies, including Vienna sausage, cheese and crackers, macaroni and cheese cups, Chef Boyardee products, mashed potatoes, beef jerky, cutlery and bottled water.
The drive-thru format allows families to remain in their vehicles while receiving the food distribution.
Registration Required
Families planning to participate should register in advance. Registration is available through the event’s online registration link, which is also accessible through the QR code on the event flyer.
Participants are instructed to have their registration email displayed and ready when they arrive. Because only 300 families are scheduled to receive bags, families interested in participating may want to arrive before the 4:30 p.m. start time.
Resource Center South Serves Dallas ISD Families
Resource Center South is part of Dallas ISD’s effort to connect families with food, health services, educational programs and other community assistance.
The center operates at the Joseph J. Rhoads Learning Center and includes a grocery program that provides food assistance to Dallas ISD families. District officials have said families from throughout Dallas ISD can use the district’s resource centers, making the Aug. 26 distribution available to eligible district families beyond the immediate South Dallas area.
That includes Dallas ISD families in the Seagoville area who may be looking for additional food assistance as the new school year gets underway.
In addition to food support, Resource Center South provides access to programs involving health care, counseling, job and educational assistance, parent classes and other family services throughout the year.
