Meet the elders, ministers and ministries welcoming Seagoville home every Sunday morning
Shop in Seagoville is launching a new series called Local Church Tour, a look inside the congregations that shape daily life across our community. First up is Seagoville Church of Christ, a fixture at 510 North Kaufman Street for generations of local families. The congregation describes itself as a family of believers who worship God, study his Word and love each other, and its public invitation is simple: come see for yourself.

What To Expect
Sunday mornings open with Bible classes for adults, teens and children, and greeters are posted at the main entrance to walk first time guests to the right classroom. Morning worship follows with singing, the Lord’s Supper, prayer, scripture reading and preaching, all done without instrumental accompaniment. According to the church, the unleavened bread and the cup of grape juice serve as weekly reminders of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Morning worship runs about an hour, Sunday evening worship is a similar length, and Wednesday evenings combine Bible classes with a shorter devotional assembly.
Who They Are
On its Who We Are page, the congregation explains its identity through familiar New Testament terms: disciples who try to follow Jesus, saints called to a humble and set apart life, and Christians united under Christ rather than divided by denomination. The church notes that it has no earthly headquarters and no governing convention, since it considers Christ himself the head of the church.
Meet the Leadership
The congregation is guided by a group of elders, sometimes called shepherds or overseers, alongside two ministers who lead the preaching and involvement efforts.
Willie Coleman
Appointed a deacon in 2013 and elder in 2022, Willie grew up in Dallas County and moved to Seagoville as a young student before building a career in computer technology.
Monty Lawley
Serving as an elder since 2006, Monty was raised in Pleasant Grove, attended W. W. Samuell High School and has been married to his wife Treon since 1971.
Steve McClelen
Appointed to the eldership in 2010, Steve grew up in a military family and spent his childhood in several cities before settling in the Seagoville area.
Matt McCullough
Appointed in 2022, Matt is a Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm who earned a computer engineering degree from Texas A&M and works in server research and development.
Leslie Thomas
Leslie rounds out the church’s eldership team, joining the other four men in shepherding the congregation according to the biblical standards outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Marco Arroyo
Raised in Los Angeles, Marco heard the gospel as a teenager and preached his first sermon soon after, later training at the Brown Trail School of Preaching.
Scott Jackson
Scott serves as the church’s Involvement Minister, focused on connecting members and visitors to the life of the congregation.
Ministries And Programs
Beyond Sunday worship, Seagoville Church of Christ runs a full slate of ministries organized around age and season of life.
Youth Group
Serving students from seventh grade through high school, the youth group meets weekly for a devotional gathering called Roundhouse, takes part in community service such as visiting the local assisted living center, and sends students to Texoma Youth Camp each summer along with an annual winter retreat. Leadership training is offered through the Lads to Leaders program.
Family Circle
Family Circle welcomes college students, young families, newlyweds, engaged couples and single adults into one fellowship group. Its Home and Family Bible class meets every Sunday morning, and the group organizes luncheons, visitation ministry and outreach to members who are sick or in need of encouragement.
55 And Better
This fellowship group for members 55 and up has been meeting on the fourth Thursday evening of most months for more than twenty years. Coordinators Joyce Jones and Elizabeth Traister plan a shared meal followed by games, guest speakers or musical performances, and visitors are always welcome.
Ladies Ministries
Women of the congregation can join a Tuesday Bible class, along with an annual Ladies Day and a Ladies Retreat that build fellowship among the church’s women throughout the year.
Outreach And Missions
The congregation supports Apologetics Press, the Brown Trail School of Preaching, local missions work and the World Bible School, extending its reach well beyond Sunday morning.
Project Philippines
Through Project Philippines, members give financially to support mission work in the Philippines, one of several ways the congregation invests in work outside Seagoville.
