Residents looking for something to do this weekend have options ranging from high school volleyball and dirt-track racing to a charity golf tournament, parks, libraries and community cleanup activities.
The weekend of Aug. 14-16 will also be extremely hot. The forecast for Seagoville calls for highs near 101 degrees Friday and Saturday and 104 degrees Sunday, making water, sunscreen and breaks from the heat particularly important for outdoor activities.
Seagoville Third Saturday Cleanup
Seagoville residents can tackle unwanted household debris Saturday during the city’s monthly Third Saturday Cleanup.
The City of Seagoville will provide dumpster access from 8 a.m. to noon at the Seagoville Service Center, 101 N. Watson St. The service is free, but residents must present a City of Seagoville water/trash bill and driver’s license.
Participants are responsible for unloading their own debris. Tires, appliances containing Freon and household hazardous chemical waste are not accepted.
Lady Pirates Continue Duncanville Volleyball Tournament
The Crandall Lady Pirates continue early-season tournament action Friday at the Duncanville Tournament.
Crandall is scheduled to face Ovilla Christian at 1 p.m. Friday in a neutral-site matchup. Crandall ISD lists the Duncanville Tournament as a three-day event running Thursday through Saturday, giving the Lady Pirates an early opportunity to accumulate match experience before the district portion of the schedule.
Tournament schedules can change based on results, so fans planning to attend Saturday should check the latest bracket before traveling.
Lady Dragons Face Jefferson Friday
The Seagoville Lady Dragons return to the court Friday following their opening-week matches.
Seagoville’s varsity team is scheduled to play at Thomas Jefferson at 6 p.m. The freshman match is listed for 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 6 and junior varsity at 7.
The Lady Dragons opened their season with a five-set victory at DeSoto before competing against Waco Connally Thursday.
Saturday Night Racing at RPM Speedway
One of the area’s most distinctive Saturday-night entertainment options returns at RPM Speedway in Crandall.
The Aug. 15 program is scheduled to include 305 Sprint Cars along with Factory Stocks, Sport Mods and Modifieds on the dirt oval.
RPM Speedway is located at 1267 County Road 4104 in Crandall. The track lists general admission opening at 6 p.m. with racing beginning at 8 p.m.
General admission for the Aug. 15 event is listed at $20 for adults and children older than 12 and $15 for seniors, military members and children ages 6-12.
Charity Golf Tournament at Rusted Rail
Golfers can combine a Saturday morning round with a charitable cause at the fifth annual Cody Ray Colley Memorial St. Jude Golf Tournament.
The tournament begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at Rusted Rail Golf Club, 1602 Highway 175 in Crandall. Proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Crandall Cross Country Opens the Weekend on the Road
Crandall High School’s cross-country program is also in action Saturday.
Crandall ISD’s athletics calendar lists the high school cross-country team competing at the Waxahachie Woodhouse meet, with the event scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday at the Crandall-Combine Community Library
Families looking for an indoor activity can spend part of Saturday at the Crandall-Combine Community Library.
The library is located at 500 W. Lewis St. in Crandall and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday during its August-through-May schedule. Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
With temperatures forecast to exceed 100 degrees this weekend, the library offers families an air-conditioned alternative to outdoor recreation.
Family Time at Webb Park
Webb Park gives Crandall and Combine families another inexpensive weekend option.
Located at 674 S. College St. in Crandall, the park includes a covered playground, pavilion, parking and restrooms. The park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Because of the expected heat, early morning or evening visits may be more comfortable than spending the middle of the afternoon outdoors.
Explore Bruce Central Park
Seagoville families can also build their own low-cost weekend outing at Bruce Central Park, 1801 N. Highway 175.
The city’s largest park includes an ADA-accessible playground, pond, walking trail, tennis and volleyball courts, picnic areas, baseball and softball facilities, a football field and restrooms.
The park provides enough different amenities for families to choose between a morning walk, playground visit, picnic or recreational sports without leaving Seagoville.
Friday Stop at Seagoville Public Library
For anyone starting the weekend early, the Seagoville Public Library remains open until 1 p.m. Friday.
Located at 702 N. Highway 175, the library offers books and digital learning resources along with a climate-controlled place for families to spend part of the day. The library is closed Saturday and Sunday.
Seagoville Open House for Home Shoppers
Residents interested in the local housing market can also add an open house to the weekend schedule.
A home at 2126 Derby Drive in Seagoville is scheduled to be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and again from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The property is currently listed for sale as a five-bedroom, three-bath home.
The open house provides prospective buyers, or residents simply curious about new housing in the community, an opportunity to see one of Seagoville’s available properties without arranging a private appointment.
