The Seagoville Lady Dragons opened the 2026 volleyball season with a hard-fought road victory Tuesday, outlasting the DeSoto Lady Eagles 3-2 in a five-set battle.
The victory gives Seagoville a 1-0 start as the Lady Dragons begin another season under head coach Zavier Fields, the reigning District 14-5A Coach of the Year.
Seagoville will have little time to celebrate the opening-night win. The Lady Dragons are scheduled to compete Thursday in the South Oak Cliff Volleyball Tournament, where they will face Waco Connally at 4:30 p.m. Connally also enters the matchup with a 1-0 record.
The tournament gives Fields and his veteran roster an early opportunity to build momentum against additional competition before the district portion of the schedule arrives.
Seagoville returns to action again Friday with a 6 p.m. matchup against Thomas Jefferson.
The Lady Dragons enter the season with considerable experience, including senior outside hitter Jade Ngure, who earned First Team All-District honors last season.
Ngure is part of a senior-heavy group that also includes Miley Vasquez, Jelani Dominguez, London Williams, Tymecia Brown, Sophilyn Solis, Za’Niyah Cole and Malay Mack.
Sophomore Amiyah Graham is another player to watch as Seagoville looks to combine its experienced senior class with younger talent.
Fields’ District 14-5A Coach of the Year recognition last season highlighted the progress of the Lady Dragons’ program, and the five-set victory over DeSoto provides Seagoville with an encouraging start to its new campaign.
With tournament competition beginning Thursday and another match scheduled Friday, the Lady Dragons now enter a busy stretch that should provide an early indication of how the veteran squad stacks up heading deeper into the 2026 season.
